The sixth month of the year arrives
here with the first of June
Summer smiles a welcome
singing here a happy tune
Sun shines down from clear blue skies
a little dance seems right
expression of the sentiment
we have with this in sight

In Stanmer Woods

In Stanmer Woods the trees stand tall
and sheltered down below
I stand as if on tippy-toe
as I’m quietly in the know
For up above the wind blows free
with frigid winter blast
yet down upon the bracken floor
there’s stillness here to last

Autumn

    Autumn

 

So many things

are vulnerable to cold—

the cucumber’s crisp

and my sweet basil’s toes,

We’re off (at last)

And so the waiting’s finally over
the day is here at last
As I go walking with my brother
On the South Downs for a blast

It has to be yellow

What can I tell you of yellow
that’s not already been said?
Something of the pleasure it brings me
over orange or purple or red

Xanthophyll

Today the springtime yellow
is blossoming with youth
But winter’s icy fingers
Linger on and hide the truth

Verdant

Luxuriant this time of year
the grass is verdant green
And unless I am mistaken
looks the best it’s ever been

Underneath; the undertow

I always pictured quite a monster
lurking down below
Beneath the waves just waiting
but for what I didn’t know
And I never, ever saw it
though I was often in the sea
So I know one thing for certain
– it never bothered me

Greening time

Contentment here
in greening time
Out in the garden
bottle of wine

Quiet & Unassuming

As a poet I find pleasure
in writing every day
Capturing a moment
about life in such a way
that when I read my words
back quietly on reflection
they take on board a meaning
to inspire with recollection

Random Moments of a Heartbreaker

At that very moment,
I was at a loss for words.
I was baffled and confused.
My vision was blurred.

and things that you fear.

You refuse to acknowledge

That would make me dance in the rain
Or find a new reason

From this lonely space I’m occupying
Can’t you see how hard I’m trying
To move on with all this pain.

My heart’s broken beyond my own repair
All I can feel is a dark despair
I want to feel the light I used to see

So I pretend that you’re still there

A Thousand Wishes Waiting

I sit and listen to those old songs
You used to sing when I was down
I can’t believe it’s been so long
Since I’ve seen you around

I want to shred off pieces
Of my own skin some times
To shrug it off like a coat
And become someone new
But I’m a wavering ocean

Alabama, Live

The crackle and pop of old vinyl,
Alabama, live, that’s what she played.
Yellow gloves up to her elbows,
Pledge, lemon, that’s what she sprayed.

REUNION

I’m not anything I thought I would be,
I don’t drive a Corvette or have a law degree.
I don’t spend my days lounging by water’s edge,
My house lacks crown molding and brushed nickel finishes.

Thinking of you….

I see our old friends all the time,
Online- looks like they’re doing fine
Posting pics of babies and first steps
Like they’re all living life with no regrets
I wonder if they’re ever holding back
they way I do
When I find myself
thinking of you….
