Maybe May will find me
on the beach once more
as warmer days get warmer
and summer waits in store
Maybe May will be the one
to see those doors flung wide
for long days in the sunshine
no more the place to hide
Maybe May will see these things
as they're the thing to do
for the fifth month and summer
are quite symbiotic too
Emerging from long slumber
fresh, I breathe in the first day
and, calling aloud her name to the winds
claim this New Year's day for hope.
For here is positivity -
anticipatory emotion.
Yet, no insipidity here
as this is a cherished agency;
one that clings to the soul and sings
long and proud and true
And so the last day
What philosophy inspires
to leave us with hope?
As the old fades to the new
and promise leaps to the fore
None, save a prayer for the bold
Just two days left of the year that has been
and I find myself drifting away
looking back to the past
with a bit of a blast
on twenty-one's last but one day
It's been one of pandemic but also of hope
triple boosted at its end as I am
I have exercised care
and am proud to share
I'm as healthy as I think I can
It’s hopeful seeing swathes of sun
in the garden daily here
even though it’s three weeks hence
til longer daytime cheer
It’s not until the end of March
that British Summer Time
gives us more daily sunlight
as we turn to warmer clime
In layers of grey with blue above
a February sky
caught me unawares today
as slowly I walked by
It promised new beginning
and though naked still the trees
the sunshine brought a warmth
to the fading winter freeze
So, resolved there in that moment
I vowed to hold that thought today
The hope for new beginning
as I went upon my way
So we wave goodbye
avoiding use of ‘farewell’
words for this year now passing
Welcome to the new
with this eve for promised hope
here’s to a brighter future
Reminiscing at conclusion
of this year that has now been
I think back over all that we
have done and all we’ve seen
As it started fairly normally
at the beginning of the year
when none had any reason
to think we’d shed a tear
But just a few weeks later
all the pubs and shops were closed
with people social distanced
diametrically opposed
the world ran out of toilet rolls
and pasta which was strange
as to a locked-in world
our lives we re-arranged
This time last year
rather innocently
we went up to London
town where did we
gather therein at
the Royal Alert Hall
to raise a loud voice
with glad anthem call
for Christmas carols
there with the throng
as myriad voices
joined there in song
A ‘beginning’ verse to end the year
with the coming of December
The twelfth month dawns and starts today
in this year we’ll all remember
And though one filled with tragedy
Twenty-twenty ends with hope
for with December comes a vaccine
to help the world to cope
I have a mind’s eye picture
of autumn here to find
which I’d like to share with you
and hope that you don’t mind
For though it’s one of fading
from a summer that’s now passed
it’s also one of hope
which I know is set to last
Two more months of ‘twenty’
and what a year it’s been
one that took us by surprise
the strangest one we’ve seen
Yes, I know it’s not yet over
and I’m not wishing time away
but now it is November
thought I ought to have my say
We have been through thick and thin
and though summer was sublime
the arrival of the virus
has brought a darker time
Concluding the Jemverse ’12 months III’ series [12 of 12]
Inevitably August time
when this month comes around
would see us looking forward
to a holiday we’d found
Somewhere hot and balmy
and usually on a ship
far across the ocean
for our destination trip
