TO THE LOVER OF MY SOUL — LOVE LETTERS #1

by thereluctantpoet

By Charles Robert Lindholm

My Dearest Darling-The Lover of My Soul,

As I sit here writing to You after all the intervening years since our time together I
am still so amazed and thankful that my memories of You and Us are as vivid as the
day we made them.

A Short Story About Us After They’ve Gone

by A. Marie

She is a winged doe, plodding along the kitchen tile,
hither/thither clipping orchids, melting wax, reaching out
to catch the tray of flutes before it falls—
but it falls, makes such a racket, cacophony of clattering
she curses, spouts a string of psalms and esoteric verses,
kicks the chunks of shards and tires her feet,
shoves it in a corner and forgets about it until the night,
slings the cupboards open and demands I climb
to the tippy-most tower where her grandfather’s
old boozy glassware has waited five decades to be touched,

First Love

by markfahmy

firstlove

Do you remember
the very first time
you fell in love?
Staying awake
long past bedtime
on a school night

And the butterflies
you felt firing up
in your stomach
every time you
saw her eyes?

Easter Memories

by scatterednotebooks

Poetry challenge: Easter poem.
.
We waited for the Easter Bunny
like we did for Santa Claus,
but he would bring the gift of spring
with his soft, little bunny paws.

We did the prep work hopefully
thinking nothing of the chore,
like colouring pretty Easter eggs
and decorations for the door.

Reflecting

Often we stop what we are doing to reflect
Thoughts seem to roam like a grazing cow
Looking back at some detail or event passed
We might ask our self who, what, why or how.

~ Giant of A Man

by ladyliterati

A dream took me to childhood places

Love and laughter, forgotten faces
But the memory of Daddy standing tall

While leaning against the kitchen wall

Woke me with great surprise

Tears of mourning, laughter filled my eyes
Recalling his polished black Oxford shoes

Loving From Afar

by 50djohnson

Not a day goes by, I think I hear you call my name and hear your precious voice.

I almost hear you say ,”I love you so much, sweetie,” that my heart begins to rejoice.

Tender notes on the piano, as only you could play, cause my eyes to tear.

Trickling slowly down my cheeks a lump in my throat suddenly appears.

Mother

by A. Marie

Mother rings inside my ears:
She scratches the big empty as a cat would bat
The dangles of curtains and wobbling kitchenry.

She blares as a hot prod,
Thunders as mustangs across Chincoteague;
Mother is a peeling, daggering wind
Over the ancient, far Ionian Sea.

This Old House

by HemmingPlay

Front Door

by Hemmingplay

This old house may be wood and paint and memories, but
Lately, the sense that our time here will end has hovered around me,
The faint melancholy of knowing that one day I will walk out one last time,
Hand the keys to someone who won’t know any of it.

That spot in the dining room wall where a teenage
Tantrum left a divot in the plaster from a chair tossed in anger.
Where the same child discovered the internet, found a girl
In California and talked up a huge long-distance phone bill.

Where B&B guests gathered from around the world
To chat at the table over Bismarks and sausages and coffee on
Their brief swing through this old house, and our lives.

The Buoyancy of Light

by HemmingPlay

anigif_enhanced-9757-1420559103-7

A blistered moon falls endlessly above a blasted land

Where thin winds move grains of sand;

Where once a shallow sea sang wetly on the deeps,

And sheltered bizarre creatures swimming.

But for 100 million years the rocks have forgot

What humidity feels like, and know only dust

And discouraged breezes,

And the silences of forgetting.

Walk On By

We met at high school; a lifetime ago

We fell in love but were taking it kind of slow

I often spent the night at your home

Your father was on duty those nights to ensure

That I slept on the couch and his daughter next door

Happiest Time

by HemmingPlay

first_landing_state_park-596x300

Someone wanted to know if I remembered
My happiest time.
I thought of the usual ones:
The birth of children, First love.
All happy times, and each different.

But this time the question brought back a different memory.
Forty-six years ago yesterday, it was.
Two poor college students, we married in a year of great turmoil,
Packed an old van and headed to the ocean

Today Someone Dies

by A. Marie

Ten years ago I saw someone die.
A thin beatless heart tugged from an outlet; there was
Singing, a high aria reverberating throughout the cave.
We all tipped and tipped as darkness
Slipped and slipped,
Waking us from the stupor of a life
Trapped in an hour,
Waving flags we had made
Lives and lives prior.
I never saw that room again. Never laid
A rose in it.
