The Most Magical

by Jem Croucher
I am the first thought
flowing to paper as the
poet sees the yellow
of a morning sky outside

I am the first breath
as a night of slumber ends
and rejuvenation leaps
to inspiration for the new

First Forsythia

by Jem Croucher
Caught a glimpse of yellow
through the kitchen door
whipped the iPhone quickly out
to capture what I saw

First forsythia growing
heralding the Spring
make me feel quite happy
caused my heart to sing

Big Yellow Jumper

by Jem Croucher
I've been watching the talent
and biding my time
but now the big jumper
is finally mine
And it's lovely and yellow
and comfortably massive
so I'll wear it with pride
with positive passive
And the knitter has done
a wonderful thing
for it's jumpers like this
that make the heart sing

Fields of long summers II (part 3)

by Jem Croucher

9 of 12 in the Jemverse summer 22 series ‘Melting Days’

In fields of long summers the colours of yellow
was ever there present for this happy fellow
reflecting the sunshine to which he was born
those summers were everything as per the norm

Release

by Jem Croucher
I'm sitting down in Obi's field
as the vice across my chest
has returned with bitter vengeance
so I really need the rest
I've found a lovely spot though
by the fence amongst the yellow
where I can sit and watch the
running of the happy fellow
And breathing deep the Sussex air
I feel the vice break free
releasing all the pressure
that this asthma brings to me

Biding Time

by Jem Croucher
In the grass getting greener
there are dandelions hiding
getting bolder with yellow
but time still abiding
because here just in April
the warmth's still a tease
so they need something more
to be fully at ease

Daffodil

by Jem Croucher

Twelve scribings revisited; Part 2 in the Jemverse ‘Malleable Days’ series

I think that if there’s one
thing to remind me of the Spring
It is the humble daffodil
and the pleasure it will bring
It’s all about the yellow
Bringing warmth sealed by the sun
and it’s something of the promise
at shadow’s end with light begun
From the monochrome of winter
the brightest colour for a while
The bright but humble daffodil
is sure to bring a smile

Small yellow II

by Jem Croucher
Small yellow in my garden
at the bottom in the sun
caught my eye this morning
now the winter time is done
I don't what its name is
but it grows here every year
yellow in Spring sunshine
so for me has purpose clear
It's there to play a rhythm
to accompany the song
that rises with crescendo
to play all summer long

One VIII

by Jem Croucher

8 of 12 in the Jemverse series ’12 months V

First of April here for fools
yet no prank here but truth
for this is now the time of Spring
when nature shows its youth
There's evidence of that all around
with bluebells in the grass
and the yellow of forsythia
as winter breathes its last
And I for one I welcome this
fresh nuance of the year
as sunshine bears its testament
for days of warmth and cheer

Awaking

by Jem Croucher
There is sunshine today
and I think at long last
the Spring has awoken from slumber
as forsythia yellow
like a jolly good fellow
has blooms on its limbs in good number

Waiting still

by Jem Croucher
The sun broke through another day
and found me waiting here
lacklustre in this winter frame
awaiting Springtime cheer
Frustrating as despite the chill
the signs are evident
with green shoots reaching skyward
colour shows its good intent
and yet this lingering chill remains
as sunshine's yellow rays
have yet to seize a hold and bring
a start to warmer days

Supermarket daffodils

by Jem Croucher
A splash of vibrant yellow
on the table brought a grin
reminded us of summer
from this winter place we're in
Supermarket daffodils
several weeks ahead of Spring
have no sense of timing
yet encourage us to sing

One VII

by Jem Croucher

7 of 12 in the Jemverse series ’12 months V’

First of March and in mind's eye
spring begins with early sigh
as green shoots winter's chill decry
and yellow makes a stand

First of March the grass grows long
and blackbirds burst to morning song
as buds burst forth in happy throng
and yellow shows its hand

First of March the sun shines high
reaching up into the sky
replacing truth from winter's lie
and yellow comes as planned

Yellow pen, yellow poem

by Jem Croucher
I got a yellow pen
in my Christmas bag today
the tenth one here for advent
very bright in every way
So I wrote a yellow poem
with some words as if to say
how chuffed I was to get it
with a loud 'hip hip hooray'!

Yellowing glow

by Jem Croucher
From my window up high
and out to the east
the glow of the morning
was a visual feast
Yellowing there with
the sun yet to rise
the blues and the pinks
hid little surprise
as I knew that in store
was a beautiful day
from this yellowing glow
and this lovely display

Little yellow

by Jem Croucher
Little yellow very lovely
dainty in the sun
at the bottom of my garden
now the summer has begun

It catches my attention
every time I pass it by
and it's so very gorgeous
that it brings a tear to eye

Tears of joy lest you should worry
for that's what yellows bring
the colour of the sunshine
and 'cos yellow is my thing

A little chap

by Jem Croucher
Took a picture of the yellow
in my garden as one does
'cos they are really lovely
so I snapped them there because
I thought they'd make a picture
to put up as a snap
so I was quite surprised
to find I'd caught a little chap

Dandelion Bouquet

by Jem Croucher
We have an evening pastime
now the 'lotty' is in full swing
a little wander down the road
to do some watering
It's cathartic and a pleasure
and with my air-pods on
I get to hear an album
on my i-phone with a song

Tri-haiku XXXI – Daffodil Laughter

by Jem Croucher

A vibrant greeting
bursting in Springtime yellow
sunshine to my day

A splash of colour
to the monotone palette
of winter greyness

Daffodil laughter
brightens up most any day
Truly infectious

Poem and Prose II

by Jem Croucher

Today with momentum
finding pattern and form
my page bore a colour
which for me is the norm

It was yellow and vibrant
the colour of Spring
mixing there with my words
and waiting to sing

First Dandelion

by Jem Croucher

First dandelion in the sun
yellow there and bright
and though it is a weed I know
it brings a lovely sight

So I’m not going to pull it up
but let it grow instead
to bring me joy and pleasure
with its lovely yellow head

Little yellow II

by Jem Croucher

There are little yellow flowers
I don’t know what they are
but they always come around this time
and are quite spectacular
Vibrant in the sunshine
they raise their heads and sing
appearing at the end of March
just before the Spring

First VII

by Jem Croucher

7 of 12 in the Jemverse ’12 months III’ series

Yellow is indicative
as first of March arrives
and with daffodils the birth flower
we know that hope survives

Spring’s just round the corner
so the warmth will not be long
Promise brings a purpose
to the timbre of this song

Daffodils

by Jem Croucher

Yellow and gorgeous
they gleam from the vase
on the table, a nod to the Spring
Shouting a welcome
they want us to dance
and lift up our voices and sing

Redolent of the sun

by Jem Croucher

Colours I remember
from when I was very young
Stayed with me into later years
with so many seasons come
But one has been a steadfast
for me a lucky fellow
The vibrancy of summer
captured in the colour yellow

For a flower passing

by Jem Croucher

On April seven a flower bloomed
as another faded still
falling silently asleep
Gently passing til
with spreading wide of petals
and yellow for the Spring
The one that bloomed to passing
stood with angels there to sing
