April cast a shadow
though I’m not in mind to care
for it was one cast by the sunshine
and the Springtime almost there
April cast a shadow
to hide the winter chills from view
heralding a summer and
warmer times anew
April cast a shadow
on the first of thirty days
showed the fool where he should go
with all his foolish ways

Zed

I’ve reached the end of A to zed
with something every day
A poem for the alphabet
in my own special way
I’ve exercised a license
as we poets often do
But I’d like to think the end result
has been encouraging for you

It has to be yellow

What can I tell you of yellow
that’s not already been said?
Something of the pleasure it brings me
over orange or purple or red

Xanthophyll

Today the springtime yellow
is blossoming with youth
But winter’s icy fingers
Linger on and hide the truth

Wonderful II

Wonderful, the morning light
Here in Lincoln’s green
Falling though the branches
to reflect on water’s sheen

Verdant

Luxuriant this time of year
the grass is verdant green
And unless I am mistaken
looks the best it’s ever been

Underneath; the undertow

I always pictured quite a monster
lurking down below
Beneath the waves just waiting
but for what I didn’t know
And I never, ever saw it
though I was often in the sea
So I know one thing for certain
– it never bothered me

Two Circles revisited

We returned to the two circles
at the back of Findon Gorse
Following the South Downs Way
to Chanctonbury of course
Marvelling at the splendid views
of the Sussex weald below
we wandered back through Sussex green
through fields that we well know

Seagulls, the sea and a song

Alone on the shingle
Salt in my mouth
Braced against wind
Looking to South

Rainbow

Honouring the promise
as sunshine mixed with rain
I saw a massive rainbow
in the sky above again
It stretched across the heavens
a thing of pure delight
Its seven colours brightening
A truly glorious sight

Quiet & Unassuming

As a poet I find pleasure
in writing every day
Capturing a moment
about life in such a way
that when I read my words
back quietly on reflection
they take on board a meaning
to inspire with recollection

Precious

Not for me a diamond
or something made of gold
For I can find my treasure
in memories of old
Just walking through the harbour
where I wandered as a boy
has value beyond measure
and instils in me a joy

Obi (paws for thought)

Obi (pronounced “Ohbee”)
has been with us for a year
He’s a little brown jack-russell
and he’s brought us lots of cheer
We’ve had him since he was a pup
all plump and paws and ears
And like our older dog we hope
that he will stay for many years

Newcastle

Lindisfarne echoed
across Newcastle tonight
The fog on the Tyne

Magnificent

Today I sat out in the sunshine
for the first time so far this year
The bluebells had made an appearance
It was lovely out there with a beer

Lyrical

I hear a rhythm deep inside my head
and the words just seem to flow
Mostly moving there in time
sometimes a little slow

Kindred Spirits

We are of kindred spirit
my soulmate and me
developed over passing time
and living by the sea
Our love it has grown deeper
over eight and thirty years
with lots of laughs and smiles
and on occasion, tears

Joy

Whenever I see sunsets
out over the sea
I experience delight
with a feeling of glee

Interesting (Slight Return)

Show me a colour, one that describes me
Look at my face – the colour behind my eyes
It cries for the sun and pines away on these rainy days
Curled in a ball and shivering,
It longs for a blue that paints the skies

Happy

Happy‘s so much better
than being glum I always find
Encouraging contentment
and a constant peace of mind
It’s so much easier to smile
and be jolly all the time
As a frown takes lots of effort
as it does to always whine

Gorgeous

I gaze up to those Sussex hills
beneath clear skies of blue
And one word springs to mind that is
descriptive of that view

Fulfilment

Fulfilment in the flower
spied along the way
Helping with its colour
to brighten up my day

Exciting II

It’s actually quite exciting
When writing to a theme
Finding every day new words
Discovering what they mean
Crafting them to lines of verse
Sparking interest or a smile
Which later on reflection
Garner substance or beguile

Dancing

I’m delving deep today
and dancing in my mind
On my way to London
as my senses are aligned
Listening to my music
hearing rhythm and a beat
Dancing as I travel
in my precious window seat

A and B and C

April brings a challenge
A to Z is here one more
Six and twenty letters
I wonder what’s in store?

So April reaches its last day
It’s been a beauty, I must say

Yellow II

 

Yellow things are mostly there
to serve as a reminder
the fact that summer’s almost here
and is going to be a blinder!
