I Will

by Rana

Launch me into darkness

and I will sculpt the universe.

Bury me beneath the birch’s roots

and I will fertilize a nation.

Tuck me between the covers

and I will give birth to love.

Poetry Challenge: Separated

by Rana

POETRY CHALLENGE: FREE VERSE.

The days have turned

to weeks and months; they burn

against my fingertips

as maturing turns to aging. I’ve learned

that it’s not about the quips

of lyricism and tricks and tips,

it’s about not quitting

when your mind starts to trip.

Battles

by Rana

They say it’s wise

to pick your battles,

to avoid the conflict

and preserve the peace.

But what of honesty, what of pride

can be preserved in the face of opposition?

There is something to be said in pride –

there is a pride in being honest with the world,

with one’s self.

One cannot sleep in a bed with

dishonesty between the sheets.

The once wriggling

parasite of the womb, now

emerges in bouts

of cantankerous

wails and greedy fingers that

grasp forth to the sky.

Poetry Challenge: Edibles

by Rana

Poetry challenge: Monorhyme.

My stomach can’t keep the pace

with my chomping jaws. Nothing goes to waste

in this household; always the race

to grab the wishbone and crack the case

of beer, not for football but the grace

Fear

by Rana

The senses succumb

while a consciousness lingers.

Sinking through the dark,

futile curses toward heavens

sluggishly fly to no one;

a last reach for life.

Poetry Challenge: ABC Poem

by Rana

Almost begun.

Beats of the heart

coincide with heel clicks.

Don’t trip.

Exhale lightly.

Follow the chosen path,

gently guided.

How radiant those

illuminated eyes shine.

Jitters smooth out.

Knuckles, bleached with tension,

The Story is Told: Loop Poem

by Rana

Poetry challenge: loop poetry.

Of angels and demons,

demons in my view.

View of the world,

world of the living…

living and the dead.

Dead and gone

gone far away,

away and left me nothing.

it drowns in drips and dribbles

perhaps it was never there.

What We Want Most

by Rana

Revel in the scars

still bleeding out for attention:

Begging for mercy to no one,

our voices echo as empty seashells

lapping at our tormenters’ feet.

Addicted for Life

Necessity

for survival beckons me

to gorge – unsufferable;

subservient to nature,

need to indulge – bitter, sweet.

Ashen Heart

by Rana

From wetlands deep he slunk, emerged

with all the marshlands in his grasp.

Marching west, his army surged

to cast out the people. So came the asp,

contempt in his hollow, ashen heart,

blind beasts in tow. They screech and bellow

his taken name, the seductive Carrow,

Bringer of Glory and breaker of hearts.

Intentions

by Rana

Letters scatter in fear,

scramble in hodgepodge lines  as I crack

my lead whip against the thin,

flimsy white pulp. In formation,

they present their arms with a

still and silent salute

to the critical opposition,

ready themselves for the slaughter.

Hypocrisy

by Rana

We know what we are

to one another.

Miserable until we’re charred,

don’t understand why we bother

to cling at each others’ heels.

Perhaps you aren’t real.

If only my conscious mind

could phase you into nothing;

make you run out of time,

but you’re still chomping

at the bit.

Make it quick.

I’m Reaching

trying since birth to reach me

Ode to Simple Things

I want to smoke my cigarette with Johnny Depp

on the patio of an Irish café, discussing how his children are doing,

if I would like another beer,

what he will do with his newest role in my newest movie,

and other simple little things.

I want to be confident in knowing

there is absolutely no one watching me change

in the locker room

and laughing into their shirts

so I can’t hear.

Maternal Domination (a message to my mom)

genuine appreciation

collides with contempt

as memory upon memory

rolls along the stimulation

you’ve always been right

i’ve watched others fail in their attempts

to prove you wrong

a futile pursuit but i was the only one

who knew better

Characters

by Harry

I was Davey Jones today,

choking all the lies out their gullets,

not letting up until the reality came spewing out

across the conference room

to drip and slide down the bare whiteboard.

Progress at last.
