Sentenced

by Nick Anthony

My first thought
When my daughter was born
Was that I just killed someone.

Her gurgling cries of life
Contrasted with the ominous, death tone
Of her mother’s solemn flatline.

And as the doctors hung their heads,
Declaring my lovely wife dead,
I realized I had just killed again.

New Life

by Renwick Berchild

There is one leg left

and there she wobbles.

Weak filly tumbling towards
new swells, feverish

rebirth, yanking at her sinews,
eager to move for the

Freedom

by marycathleenclark53

A crack zigzags across the old sidewalk.
The summer sun’s fiery fingers prod inside
And wrench apart the hot concrete,
Exposing a tiny sliver of earth that for years untold
Has known only crushing pain and darkness.

Angelic was her voice
And all who passed by
Felt her need to rejoice

The dog’s long howl

The babies screeching cry

Prickled fur of fear

Hollow ribs of the starved

Poem by Wendy Norman

It’s warm inside with muted song
My mama purrs this is where you belong
I float and twirl not a care in this world
You dream of me to be unfurled

I cannot see but float and twist
Swooshing waves of fluid to resist
I hear your heart pounding deep
My life depends on this drum beat

Poetry Challenge: Self portrait.

by Rana

I’m Reaching

Petite feet, with Schwarzenegger toes,

trying since birth to reach me

to heaven,

or something just as peaceful

and lazy.

Calves the size of

baby cows

from lugging bail

upon bail to the barn ceiling.

Fire at my Centre

by harulawordsthatserve

Fire at my centre,

burning as the core

shedding sacred light and warmth

with playful flicker roar.

Fire at my centre,

through my eyes you dance

telling stories long since past

as I gaze on entranced.

The Day of Fatherhood

by Venkat

the happiness of a day in May
is beyond measure and my say
like adding a fresh page to a book worn
it was the day when my son was born

whitish pink was his color
like a brand new rose flower
bells were ringing in my ears
and eyes swelled with joyful tears
