I burned for you
until I became smoke
and vanished
on the winds
that carried me
to the heavens

This is a rewrite of a poem that is titled, World of Connected Souls, first published in my second book, My Angel, My Muse.
☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯☯
“Come away with me,”
I said.
Your shoulders slumped,
you turned your head.
Like a reluctant witness.
“Come away,
anywhere with you will be home.”
No more days alone.
Wondering where you went, how far.

she stained your bread-sheet not with her blood but with
the desperation and manipulative words you put Into her.
she told you it was okay you know it wasn’t.
yet you grabbed … her hand and told her to stop fussing.
…you sat her down and talk about your stories of
how you use to hustle .. .how your life was dangerous
and how you couldn’t settle.
she was ready to leave but her heart wasn’t.
she glared into your eyes and told you she love you…
you had nothing to give her not a dime or a nickel.
..she didn’t ask for anything she didn’t want to.
she started a job to make a little something
she wasn’t the best… but you appreciate her efforts.

I woke cocooned in perfect warmth and sleepy contentment this morning
Swimming up through the soft, wispy layers of consciousness, smiling
Our past lives rattled the windows and tried to peek in to disturb
Nothing could break the spell, or disturb the sleeping mirage in my arms
This morning, I’m not alone. The dark-haired myth now shares my pillow
A faerytale knight once, now warm, real and perfect in this story
Shining armour strewn upon my floor, a testament to who won the night before

POETRY CHALLENGE: FREE VERSE.
The days have turned
to weeks and months; they burn
against my fingertips
as maturing turns to aging. I’ve learned
that it’s not about the quips
of lyricism and tricks and tips,
it’s about not quitting
when your mind starts to trip.

Poetry challenge: Free verse.
During my residency in this abominable life
I have known the gruesome and the beautiful,
I have known the thrall of the flawless embrace…breathtaking
As I have known the sorrowful swell of heart cleaved from chest
I have known a precious few worthy and winsome people
And I am thankful for having known them
Because they have taught me the tangible lesson
That I contemplate in my solitude
Amid the myriad of superfluous and discombobulated thought
Scrumptious morsels of truth for the peckish mind grown plump on falsehood
I abandon the gospel of the pompous and the eminent
And the absurd squabble over what is right
What is proper about this world I have come to loath,

Revel in the scars
still bleeding out for attention:
Begging for mercy to no one,
our voices echo as empty seashells
lapping at our tormenters’ feet.
