In Michigan
the politicians of spring
will soon sprout
and shout
colorful words
of hope
from their pulpits.
Tulips will poke
their heads into our lives
and smile.
Neighbors
will come to visit
with coffee, tea
and the latest
gossip.
It is the rhythm
that is important,
the cadence of pauses
between truth and lies,
the emphasis
on delivery, the promises
and the rhetoric
in their deceit.
