While hiking on a lonely trail,
My goal: another mount to scale,
And feeling rather wearisome,
I pause in sweet delirium
Upon a bridge where blows a gale.
I fain would other traveler hail
While hiking on a lonely trail,
But I’ll not wait for him to come,
For here I cannot stay.
Now feeling once more whole and hale,
I loosen grip upon the rail.
My pack swings like a pendulum
Back to my shoulder, burdensome.
Draw in a sigh, then deep exhale,
For here I cannot stay.
