This mother’s heart has been pierced.
“A soft answer turns away wrath.”
The rebuke sits heavily on my ears.
I have no reply,
And so I quietly eat my dinner,
Though every bite catches in my throat.
Someone is missing from the table, and I know why.
Even I have a limit to what I can handle.
But does God make allowances for my limitations?
Or am I yet without excuse?
Sleep will not come easily tonight.
The burden of what should have been said—
And what should have remained unsaid—
Will prevent rest for a while.
But then the still small voice
Will whisper words of comfort:
“Fear not, for I am with you.
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yea, I will help you,
Yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.”
His righteousness.
Not mine.
For my righteousness is as filthy rags.
“Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?”
He will say that,
But then He will arise,
And rebuke the winds and the sea,
And there will be a great calm….
