Before the Dorset sun retired
at the end of a fine day
we went for a small wander
down the lanes around this way
At the crossroads we went straight ahead
as it seemed the thing to do
passed by the Crooch Farm courtyard
'neath a cloudless sky of blue
And in this patch of England
idyllic by the lake
a little slice of heaven
on this evening we will make
Sunshine setting, shadows long
with stillness to the air
we stand and simply marvel
whilst a nightingale sings there
Paddington Central, London town
a haven here I found
Little Venice, tranquil peace
despite the noise around
Ducks upon the water
Longboats moored at bay
A rather pleasant find
at the start of this fine day
I am tranquility and more
my voice a soothing balm
Shining I reflect the sun
to bring you peace and calm
I am river flowing free
my waters smooth and still
Come stay a while and breathe me in
until you’ve had your fill
I’m at the Angel Islington
in the heart of London town
Waiting by the tunnel
for traffic to come down
There are watercraft here waiting
close to where I am
Engines chugging in a queue
A canal boat traffic jam
There are the special places
each of us must find
where we can go to be alone
find peace and just unwind
The places of tranquility
where we can simply breathe
watch quietly as the world goes by
before it’s time to leave
There’s an echo on the water
at this quiet time of day
as the river slowly flows
before the world comes out to play
Silently I stand and breathe
and smile at what I see
For this really is a special place
where I am fortunate to be
We have a beautiful garden
which is lovely to see
I’m so pleased it is there
for my family and me
It’s a respite for us
throughout the whole year
For just sitting in quiet
or a chat with a beer
I have a pocket of sunshine
to soak up the last rays
As they leave my garden
at the end of fine days
And in the chair I have here
I’ll sit quietly and write
With the joys of my garden
Close by in plain sight
