For the eleven

Memorial for eleven who passed that fateful day
looking to the airport where, across the Adur way
the plane that fell out of the sky seven years now past
took off but never landed save by that fiery blast
Yet now on this east river bank eleven arches stand
and catch the rays of setting suns for those eleven and
serve as fitting testament in Shoreham here so we
do not forget their passing as this sculpture here we see

This time last year IV

This time last year
the weather was mellow
and in spite of restriction
a fortunate fellow
was able to cycle
out of the trail
as sunsets of gold
were made to regale

Blessed are those
Ambitions, tempered with reality
Expectations reined in
Happiness just a step away

Sunset Seduction

The steady steps of faithful hounds

The bush silvery green and lush

The leaves are crackling so loud

Lizards scuttling in a rush

A ghostly mist envelopes me

Each footprint lifts some mud

The lake is seeping through the trees

Birds fluttering high above

Joy

Whenever I see sunsets
out over the sea
I experience delight
with a feeling of glee

What a beautiful blessing

That each sunset’s delight

Brings the glorious birth

Of another new night!
