Caught a bus into work
'cos the wind was quite high
and overnight it had blown
something onto the line
so the trains were all cancelled
but buses were still
accepting our tickets
for a walk with a will
At this silent hour the water still
I breathe it in and have my fill
for at this quiet time of day
the river has a voice to say
all that it wishes in hushed tone
its soothing voice is quite alone
save for me who noiselessly
savours sunrise all for free
The eastern sun rose
slow behind as I walked
but I turned on a whim
and there, it was caught
a bright orange globe
rising swift from the night
in the still hours of morning
for a marvellous sight
so I took a long moment
hardly drawing a breath
before turning again to
walk back to the west
East London early morning
and I turned and caught the sun
with burning sky across the Thames
just as the day begun
Gold shone from the high buildings
in the city 'cross the way
but, heeding Shepherd's warning
knew that rain would come today
From my window up high
and out to the east
the glow of the morning
was a visual feast
Yellowing there with
the sun yet to rise
the blues and the pinks
hid little surprise
as I knew that in store
was a beautiful day
from this yellowing glow
and this lovely display
And here for Sunday
the sun still has its hat on
Hip, hip, hip hooray
Golden for autumn
it still shines yellow and warm
Hip, hip, hip hooray
Shining still brightly
it stays and it continues
Hip, hip, hip hooray
So we all walked back to Charmouth
early morning 'round sunrise
with mist in all the valleys
and a glow atop the rise
Took us about an hour
then we walked right back again
as the sun climbed higher brightly
in the east from whence it came
Sailing into Venice
is there a better way?
I certainly cannot think of one
on this this lovely warm Monday
The sunrise golden in the east
The sky an azure blue
As slowly through the islands
we sail to this fine view
The beach huts may be shuttered
and closed for wintertime
But the sunrise ‘cross the sea is
just as equally sublime
as it can be in summer months
much earlier than this
But still tinged with a wonder
which comes quite close to bliss
