upon the silken sea
as the tide crept in a final time

The longest pier

That’s Southend here in Blighty
not a lot more I can say

Apart from that it’s very long
stretching out to sea
The pier head barely visible
in the wide Thames estuary

It’s peaceful here in winter
as the tidal waters flow
