Wet roads glisten in sunshine
fresh from the rain
as I sit here gazing from
my high window again
There’s not much here passing
lockdown in full swing
but it highlights the colour
which comes from the Spring

I’m thinking of a song I heard
one that brought a grin
for that is what I need right now
with the state I’m in
I’m trying hard, don’t get me wrong
and I know I’m not alone
as there are many others out there
who like me must stay at home
But it’s hard remaining positive
so I need a helping hand
provided by a favourite song
sung by a favourite band

The sunshine comes against the blue
with birds up in the tree
encouraging this morning
as the Springtime here I see
Yes there is still a present chill
the crisp of winter clings
but in my heart the summer comes
so with the birds I sing

We all went up to London
to the Royal Albert Hall
Voices ready to sing loud
proclaiming Christmas call
The Philharmonic orchestra
was wonderful to hear
five thousaand people joining in
with rousing festive cheer
And the mexican wave was something else
all adding to the thing
this unique celebration gave
with carols there to sing

Came back to the beach
but I didn’t stay long
for instead of the sun yesterday
Out to the East it looked a bit grim
and the clouds to the West were all grey
Having said that this place
be it raining or shine
has a magic that constantly sings
So I’ll always return and sit here a while
whatever the weather it brings

A long trip up north
six hours on a train
met when I got there
with wetness and rain
So I thought of the sun
and the warmth that it brings
as that’s always enough
to make my heart sing

5 of 5 in the Jemverse ’31’ series

We lost sight of our accordion player
as we wandered, singing our song
But he was just lagging behind us
as we slowly ambled along
So, reaching the base of escarpment
Fulking Village just ahead there to find
We turned and up there high above us
we found him in the sunshine

They bear a message to my soul,
By pen and ink there quilled.

I know you’ve probably heard this
many times before
And the last thing that I want
is for it to be a bore
But the song I hear each morning
at the beginning of a day
Is something I must shout about
in each and every way

Alone and fragile there
Abandoned by warmth it sadly sings
