No. 6 of 16 in the Jemverse ‘Venetian Vistas’ series

Outside our porthole as we sail
the water rushes by
Sometimes a flat calm and
sometimes waves are high
This morning we saw dolphins
which was as lovely as could be
Whilst tonight at dusk the moon was bright

We had a brilliant time down in Bristol
reliving the days from my youth
Great to see the familiar sights

Part 14 of 20 in ‘The Aegean Shores’ series

A traffic jam into Piraeus this morning
Many ships all in a queue
The Pilots letting one in at a time
As I watched from the prow with a view
Over the hills to the east the sun rose
Cast a golden glow everywhere
As each found its berth in the harbour here

Arising early with the sun
the boy looked out to sea
and saw a liner sailing by

There’s a world outside my window
but I’m all at sea today
Sunshine through the porthole
with waves out there at play
The Spirit’s cutting westward

For we had extra legroom
and the engines weren’t too loud
The outbound flight as always
thrilled us to the core
England disappearing
through the window there we saw

Anticipation is
a marvellous thing
especially when coupled
with enjoyment to bring
I’ll give you example

From the beach today I saw a ship
a long way out to sea
Out there in the channel
it was calling out to me
It bade me come and join it
as it steamed to warmer lands
But alas I sadly shook my head
as I stood there on the sands

Rise and fall
Rhythmic sway
Side to side
Listening to the rain’s
Pitter and Pat
As the people
Stagger to and fro

Tall master in the Albert dock
at rest on Merseyside
I wonder where her keel has been
in oceans far and wide
Her rigging whistling in the wind
sails tied down and furled
She’s keeping that a secret
from an unenlightened world
