Redwood gone

In October red I paused beneath
its lofty heights in wonder
at the absolute magnificence
of this redwood tree asunder

So imagine my dismay today
to find that storms with thunder
and a lightning strike reduced it
to a stump and piles of lumber

Yes, there's like still there but
its pride is lost for good
a sad, contrite reminder
of a once proud tall redwood

Sheffield Park II

We wandered fields at Sheffield Park
Wolfgang, Sal and I
Finding paths where no-one trod
beneath a cloudy sky

No sign of rain and very warm
Muggy, I would say
But it seemed to have the best effect
as crowds had stayed away
