We didn't get much for most of the summer
which for farmers and gardeners
was a bit of a bummer
And we attest to that fact with good claim
as nothing much grew
which was quite a shame
Yet now in September in buckets it's falling
almost as if it had heard
all our calling

1 of 12 in the ’12 months VI’ series from Jemverse
It's the first of September
and here for the starting
a new Jemverse series
with the old just departing
Twelve poems each as
the first day arrives
will start every month
if my writing survives

And with morning three words came
'Here comes Friday' my waking eye
with silent whisper
said, I beamed
The sunshine decided September
had still more summer to give
warmth remaining
here it seemed
And outside my window the golden one
waved gregariously from the East
with its hat on
Comfort gleaned

September sun heat
no denial of fact
twenty-five degrees celsius
attesting to that
So it was back to the beach
to sit in the sun
at Saturday teatime
til evening was come

4 of 10 in the Jemverse ‘On the beach’ series
Eight thirty in the morning
the sun warm on my brow
in September shorts with
the summer still somehow
The sunglare on the water
the millpond of the sea
and overhead the cloud free sky
means here’s the place to be

2 of 10 in the Jemverse ‘On the beach’ series
So I’ve not written ’bout the beach
for quite a while it seems
but today is quite appropriate
with all these new sunbeams
For it seemed the summer left us
when August’s evening came
yet now it’s back and shouting
lest we forget its name

1 of 10 in the Jemverse ‘On the beach’ series
I took a week off
it was a good choice
as there were good things
in which to rejoice
For starters the sunshine
decided to stay
and reboot the summer
in every way

Sitting in the sunshine
outside my house is great
especially this time of year
with shadows getting late
As north facing out the back
by four the sun has gone
hidden by the apex where
in summer months it shone
Yet out front I bask in glory
and can stay here for some time
for there remain some hours yet
of mid-September shine

An hour of gorgeous sunshine
before the clouds come by
and hide again the golden globe
is perfect where I lie
It’s just enough to heal an ill
or chase some blues away
so I’m hoping that I’ll see some more
on each September day

September, a Thursday
it might shine, it might rain
but one thing’s for certain
that this third again
will not be repeated
it’s a one-off, unique
which we’ll not find again
wherever we seek

Mid-September with sun
took me back to the beach
to sit beside the blue sea
It’s lovely down here
sitting still with a beer
There’s no place I’d rather be

It’s the first of September
and I’m back at the beach
It seemed like the right thing to do
I mean if you like me lived
with this close at hand
you’d join me right here, wouldn’t you?

No. 1 of 12 in the Jemverse “12 months II” series

September comes, the harvest month
of forget-me-knots and glory
A stone of sapphire, Virgo too
and Libra for the story
The ninth of the Gregorian
and first in this new series
From Jemverse for another year
in answer to your queries

It blew nine bells again last night
But you’d never know this morning
As, when the night time clouds had cleared
A lovely day was dawning
The sun was bright, the sky was blue
and the wind had disappeared
Something of a respite
from the cooler day we’d feared

I’m told that come September
England’s summer’s at an end
But I’m not ready yet, I’ll tell you
To say goodbye to my good friend
And I’m pretty sure the sunshine
Is having none of that
As the heat I felt at lunchtime
Made it clear where it was at

One-day respite for September
the month of nine is here
A birthstone of pure sapphire
and a message which is clear
It’s flower of birth – Forget-me-not
and Morning Glory too
Synonymous with sunshine
Summer’s end here to bestrew

with promise in store
that there would be warmth

What if we talked of rain the way we talk of
snowflakes, of individual pride and
spatters that leave flushes behind would it
change
the rain?
Would we mold lakes from
droplets, figure eights rupturing from our heel

I walked the long familiar beach
where houses made of wood
formed from disused railway stock
against the weather stood
All are now long gone of course
but their garden walls remain
Reminding me that wind and sea
will always stake its claim
