The radio caused me to pause and think
The host relating reaction to her post
Thoughtful words about Memorial Day
Thinking of what really matters the most.
She gave of herself with no expectations
We seldom heard her ask for very much
You could make her smile with just a hug
She always returned such a gentle touch.
I had music on the brain, so thought I would use only song titles to ‘compose’ my thoughts. How many do you remember? Humming allowed…
“what’s going on?” “more than a feeling”
“it’s a shame”, “i wanna be your lover”
“one bourbon, one scotch, one beer”
“smoke on the water down by the river”.
Do you remember
When a drive through the countryside was enjoyable, the smell of freshly turned earth, mowed hay, not fields smelling like Waste Water Plants.
Do you remember
When the only wars we needed to be concerned about were gas wars.
I originally posted this last year for a Free Write Friday post:
kellieelmore.com/2013/05/10/fwf-free-write-friday-m-is-for-mom
With that special day coming up this weekend, I wanted to share it again and express my thanks to all the mothers our there. I miss my own mother and the mother of my children, so I hope that all appreciate the mothers they still have…
How much time have you spent in life
Wondering what your future would be
Any time at all is more than you’d have
If your Mom hadn’t desired your face to see.
Some have asked if one can remember
Where were you when things changed
When a world stopped for a moment
Because someone showed out deranged.
Remember when the only topic covered
When there was only a single thought
How could something like this happen
Remember that a president has been shot.
So much has changed since that day
Looking at a black and white tv screen
Who would have thought life so valueless
So much now on those screens to be seen.
Some aspects of life are better now
But innocence itself is rarely found
Back when time stopped and tears fell
Because a shell casing fell to the ground.
