~ From Afar ~

by A. L. O'Prunty

~ From Afar ~

You, my golden sun
Your brilliance
Bedazzles the senses

Broad and bronzed
From afar I watch…
Your feet in frothy foam
Shoulders bear your burden;
I long to be a basket

Strong strides of the Olympian
Your calves glisten
Of sweat, sun and sea
And I trace
With gentle grace
Contours from afar:

Golden sun shower me
With your tropical beams
From sweat to sea
I will play as a mermaid
Teasingly upon your shore.

That our bodies glisten and shine
It is unto Bacchus
We give thanks for the laden vine

That slumber I may find:

Charmer of all living things
Divine your hymns, divine your strings
Venerated by humankind
Soother of lonely souls that pine

So Far

by beeseeker

Crowded, sullen grey clouds

Bear silent witness:

Vacant market stalls,

Double-wet cobbles

Giving less than nothing back

And a patient young woman,

In quiet violet coat, with

Once-black collars and

A battered cello case
