I wrote a poem with five verses
one for every day
which I could publish on my blog
whilst I was away
The first one introduced the theme
(you read that yesterday)
but now you will be wondering
if substance I'll display
And never fear my readers
I'll not leave you feeling spent
as never will a poem
leave my pen without intent
The only caveat with this
is you read this through the week
to find out with the fifth stanza
that intent of which I speak...

Framed by aging iron posts
the ancient steps behind
the padlocked gate lead nowhere
(least no place I could find)
Mysterious the setting
with the undergrowth and tree
left me puzzled and a-wondering
at what it all could mean

These days each day is similar
but I don’t really mind
as there is much to occupy
and fill them all I find
I rise at four when it’s still dark
and spend an hour writing
updating all my poetry blogs
which I find quite exciting
Then weekdays I will work through two
on my window to the world
my laptop there connected
for daily tasks unfurled

Quietly the voice it whispered
barely audible it spoke
secrets only I could hear
way before the day awoke
Finger to my lips a promise
made and kept and honoured long
silence sang the words of knowledge
harboured by this ageless song

Starting to appear now
mysterious boxes
their fragrance filling the room
A promise of something
that’s getting quite close
in mid-December quite soon
What’s in the box?
my immediate question
unanswered of course for a while
The mystery continues
as excitement grows
coupled with winks and a smile

Life is like a flower of blue
with fragrance of the sun
Mysterious yet loveable
for me and everyone
Life is like a sky of blue
with clouds all fleecy white
Overwhelming yet with comfort
soothing everything in sight
Life is like a sea of blue
with waves of movement there
Boundless and yet welcoming
with love and care to share

I think I’ve solved
the mystery
But then again
could just be me

With mystery there
lurking at the edge of day
and timidity
Encouragement saw
soon a braver face appear
and there the sun’s rise

3 of 3 in the Jemverse ‘Ocean’ trilogy
It’s the ocean of everything
I know and hold dear
And I’m part of its essence
That much remains clear
But explaining just why
is a difficult thing
There are words and a voice
and a mystery to bring

I wonder what’s down there, I thought
when wandering through the woods
The pathway looked mysterious
so I went there as I could
It took me to the undergrowth
the canopy complete
And showed me the dark forest
damp sod beneath my feet

as night settles in
Little pinpricks of light
point to where I have been
As with power from the sunlight
they get by the day
they come alive in the darkness

On Ditching Down we found ourselves
‘For the Birds’ – a mystery tour
Part of the Brighton Festival
at midnight, what was more
A trail of lights led up the hill

all adding to the mystery
which put us to the test

The thing about life is,
that you never know..
You never know who you hurt with the words you spoke,
or whose heart you accidentally broke.
You never know who you damaged every bit of their soul,
or whose shine you mercilessly stole.

Contemplative quiet and still
now seems as good a time
to sit back here, reflective
whilst I’m feeling fine
Can’t quite put my finger on
though I’m trying hard to share
Intangible, perched on the edge
it’s not exactly there
