When I think of times past

Where larders held our next repast

Where mice crept in and rats could play

Leaving droppings on their way

Beauty catches my breath

Opens my heart

Causing my soul to dance and sing

Joy streaming out

Confidence strikes

Stays in bed

Hovers in my head

Vanishes like mist

When I think of how I missed

Grace for the here and now

Gracefully she wends her way

Keen to start each new day

Joy in the journey at last is hers

A friendly word here and there

A supporting hand to show she cares

Hot summer days

Children’s laughter

Running steps

Voices rising in chorus

Haiku: Whispering

Whispering leaves join

Waving branches announcing

The lighthouse stands tall and proud
Shining its warning
Out over the sea
Its’ light penetrates deeply
Into the darkness
