And the last day of May
comes as June takes the stage
with a bow as summer returns
So good at long last to get a warm blast
of the sunshine as strongly it burns
So as May fades to silent
with its last curtain call
we applaud as it gave of its best
and brought us the sun for long days of fun
in exuberance of summer's zest
Mayday and to jingling bells
around tall poles and dancers tells
and cries of joy and yodelling yells
first day of summer comes
Midway twixt the equinox
and summer solstice twirl the frocks
with brightly coloured stripy socks
first day of summer comes
So dance we will as dance we must
with 'Calan Mai's' tradition thrust
as to these open arms in trust
first day of summer comes
The bluebells are blooming, it's that time of year
in the garden there under the tree
that gives shade from the sun
when their time has begun
for this lovely bright vision we see
Maybe May will find me
on the beach once more
as warmer days get warmer
and summer waits in store
Maybe May will be the one
to see those doors flung wide
for long days in the sunshine
no more the place to hide
Maybe May will see these things
as they're the thing to do
for the fifth month and summer
are quite symbiotic too
Monday comes around
Month of May and Star Wars day
when all in humour
with the greeting ‘May the fourth
be with you’ repeat aloud
for smiles and laughter here
The mock orange in my garden
has blossomed now it’s May
And its fragrance is abundant
at any time of day
Especially of an evening
when it fills the air with scent
And I stand there for a moment
Breathing in with good intent
A poem for Maytime
sitting out in the sun
The warmer air tells us
Springtime’s begun
There are dandelions
buttercups, daisies too
growing there in the grass
with the bells of blue
