First Lavender III

We’ve not been to our allotment
Covid-19’s seen to that
But Emily our daughter
has been keeping it intact
We’re seeing lots of pictures
which she takes from time to time
and I’m pleased to say as ever
that it’s looking mighty fine

Meadowglow

In the meadow there are flowers
but in the grasses growing tall
the vibrant red of poppies crown
and out-manoeuvre all

The daylight fades as sunset comes
and glowing through the trees
the wonder of this moment
brings me falling to my knees

Nestled

Nestled underneath the Downs
beside the deep blue sea
Shoreham town lies quietly there
serene and peacefully

Approaching from the Sussex hills
this view it caught my eye
and thankful that I live down there
I ambled slowly by

Magical II

Night time in our garden
just as lovely as the day
it really is quite magical
and charming I would say
And yes I may be biased
but when a things needs to be said
I think it’s best to get it out
than keep it in my head

Big II

The driftwood on the beach tonight
was big and long and tall
and though I would’ve if I could’ve
I can only take stuff small
But I still took several pictures
at marvelled at the fact
that it was wedged there in the rocks
placed by the sea intact

Longshadow three

Three shadows cast
by a streetlight behind
long to the seashore
waiting to find
what there lay in store
with mystery held
longshadow casting
completely compelled
But soon there revealed
with the lap of the sea
as twilight it faded
on longshadow three

Supermoon rising

On the beach just last evening
with Obi and Sal
we walked on the shingle and saw
with a glow in the east
a visual feast
as a supermoon rose for encore

Evening of the day

Tonight I found a sunset
as the river trickled slow
and the deeper blue of night arrived
above the golden glow

It was peaceful there and quiet
not another soul around
so I revelled in the moment
of that special place I’d found

Elegant Green II

The elegant green
I have written before
of the wonderful sea
down here on the shore
It’s elegant posture
fluid and free
speaks to me always
so eloquently
And I treasure those words
from the elegant green
as they are the best
I have heard and have seen

First Dandelion

First dandelion in the sun
yellow there and bright
and though it is a weed I know
it brings a lovely sight

So I’m not going to pull it up
but let it grow instead
to bring me joy and pleasure
with its lovely yellow head

Little for perfecting

Across the bridge over the Adur
at night with lights reflecting
This view across to Shoreham Beach
needs little for perfecting

Fortitude

Each evening on the journey home
we drive beside the sea
‘neath a big sky that sweeping view
How fortunate are we?
The shingle beach right there beside
the road just yards away
a pleasure bringing fortitude
on each and every day

Moon of the moment

Crescent moon up in the blue
bright shining in the sky
on a brittle winter morning
really caught my eye

Ethereal there through the trees
daylight just a whisper
I stood and watched her for a while
just in case I missed her

Perfect bliss

The autumn carpet
starts to lay
on this fine Lincoln
autumn day
Gold beneath
my crunching feet
as I go walking
life is sweet

Split II

Sitting on deck six
with Split across the way
Picturing all the things
that have made this holiday

It has been all we hoped for
and though we fly home on the morrow
It is with happiness we’re leaving
and not one tinged with sorrow

For we’ve criss-crossed the Adriatic
seen sunshine and some rain
Visited new places and
been back to some again

Joy to share II

So here beneath the leafy green
Another day in Kew
I stand beside the River Thames
and see this lovely view
The tide is high, the water deep
The sky with promise there
As through the trees the sun appears
and I have joy to share

First I

It’s the first of September
and I’m back at the beach
It seemed like the right thing to do
I mean if you like me lived
with this close at hand
you’d join me right here, wouldn’t you?

Lavender bagging

Bagged up all my lavender
in bunches hung above me
drying out and making
all around me smell quite lovely
A bumper crop this year
has meant a lot more bags to do
which later on as little gifts
may find their way to you

From diamond seas

To the east the seven sisters
to the west the Isle of Wight
around this sweeping Sussex bay
I have within my sight
And in front of me out to the south
the diamond glinting sea
reflecting southern sunshine
is with me here and free

Iron Blooms

The collection is growing
of our iron blooms
amongst the nasturtiums out there
Exposed to the weather
they rust and remain
with permanent gusto and flair

We have poppies and daisies
and other such things
positioned and planted at leisure
For as the year changes
and plants come and go
they remain for continuing pleasure

Rose ‘n’ daisy

The postman brought us yesterday
a box from two good friends
who’d very kindly, lovely flowers
to us, they’d thought to send
It really was a nice surprise
Gave us a warming glow
‘Cos it’s nice to get a present
by surprise from friends you know

Lovely IV

The variegated colour of
our Nasturtiums in full bloom
return year after year
when they first appear in June
They really are quite lovely
and I’m glad they reappear
as their colour in the garden
brings us pleasure, yes and cheer

That lavender time again IV

I’m going to need a bigger basket
this year I think as I
harvest all my lavender
which has grown tall and high
For this year all my bushes
a bumper crop have grown
and I have much more lavender
than I have ever known

Two Lavenders

Bought two big lavenders in pots
two years or so ago
and whereas one has grown abundant
the other one’s been slow
Having said that, the one I planted
is the one that’s done the best
So there’s a lesson here I think
to learn and in that time invest

Sussex Fields revisited

Sussex fields so
bright and green
nicest that I
think I’ve seen
And when the sun
breaks over hill
I think that they
are nicer still

Gorgeous II

Rustic, these sculptures
turn their heads to the sky
be it grey or bright blue
with clouds floating by

In our garden their splendour
brings pleasure each day
Each unique and quite gorgeous
in their own special way

Bumble bees and lavender

The bumble bees
love my lavender
They’re on it all the time
Drinking up the pollen
when the weather is sublime

And I’m jolly pleased
I planted them
last summer on a whim
As a bumper harvest later on
to me they now will bring

The beach is a birthday

At the beach hut on my birthday
(I was sixty yesterday)
And whilst not exactly sunny
It was perfect anyway
The sea was like a diamond
Flat calm, a lovely sight
Mirror-like, reflecting
the sky above so bright
