a
gentle
hum
somewhere
interrupts
the still-

of a
lonely night,
and threatens to
distract me
from my
thoughts
of you.

“The last time I felt alive – I was looking into your eyes.
Breathing your air…. touching your skin…
… Saying goodbye….
The last time I felt alive…. I was dying.”

Politely asking strangers,
if they could just be so kind.

Take hold of this bottle of simple table salt,
feel the surface both solid and smooth resting in your palm,
know that this salty white chemical mix is the spark of want,
Can’t you feel the pull of desire in the looks we share?

Finding comfort yet again
In the sweetness of her tears.

He wakes up on top of me
Wearing the same tattered clothes,
As dank and filthy as garbage
On a hot and humid afternoon.
He slips away every day before dawn,
Before they come to check on me
And clean my worn out skin,
And clear my space of thrown out dreams
And rusted needles, still dripping
With the cheap thrills of last night.

The rich young ruler
had asked Jesus,
“What must I do to be saved?”
and after every thing
Jesus told him
he answered, “I have done that”
then the final question
that passed between them
was from the rich young ruler
to Jesus
“What more do I need to do?”
Jesus looked deeply
into his eyes
