John Harvey

by Jem Croucher
And down the Bridge Wharf twitten
the brewhouse brews beer and wine
standing proud there for tradition
now since eighteen thirty nine

John Harvey forty years before
in Bear Yard across the way
started brewing Harvey's beer

Release II

by Jem Croucher
In Lewes on the river path
we walked beside the Ouse
watched it flow in from the sea
meandering to use
That aged water, aged flow
o'er many years has seen
and where along its grassy banks
many souls have been

In Lewes Wolfgang, Sal and I
in spite of summer rain

as we are back here again
That aged water, aged flow

A trip to Lewes

by Jem Croucher

IMGP0056

Took a wander round Lewes
thought that would be good
Had a beer at the snowdrop
and some rather nice food
Browsed some antique shops
dodging the rain
Through the Clarice Cliff price tags
were bad for my brain

Lewes

by Jem Croucher

It’s not raining in Lewes
which is refreshingly nice
As we have lunch by the river
with coffee and pies

There’s a warmth in the air
but we still wear cagoules
as there’s threat in the sky
by the calm river Ouse

Ouse (Lewes)

Meandering down through ancient town
A trickle now, a stream
Belying far more turbulent times
In its history it has seen
