Our beach hut

by Jem Croucher
And the view from the beach hut
to the shine of the sea
on this day in December
was fantastic for me

So pleased I can come
at all times of year
as this place is my haven
and always brings cheer

Widewater Lagoon

by Jem Croucher
Widewater Lagoon
right next to the sea
on a day like today
is the place to be
There are people just walking
whilst some cycle by
and every so often
a seagull I'll spy
It's such a nice walk
on my way to the beach
so I'm massively grateful
it's in easy reach
as it means to this place
I can come for a wander
on days like today
and not let them squander

On the beach II

by Jem Croucher

10 of 10 in the Jemverse ‘On the beach’ series

The sprawl of Brighton to the east
and Worthing to the west
is why this beach at Lancing
sparks such an interest
As lying equidistant
the eye is drawn to each
affording quite the best of views
when sitting on the beach

Atmospheric 3

by Jem Croucher

3 of 3 in a Jemverse mini-series

Looking eastwards cross the raging sea
grey clouds above the green
The beach at Lancing here today
amongst the best I’ve seen
That is, I’d say, for quite a while
so fortunate am I
as I can come and witness when
wind blows and waves are high
This beach, this shore in Sussex
wonderful throughout the year
Its glory never lost on me
when I am standing here

Tri-Tanka IV (Lancing Beach)

by Jem Croucher

Once again relaxed
Lancing Beach does that for me
Every single time
The sound of the moving sea
The sight of the ocean waves
And I’m in my element

Breakfast on the beach

by Jem Croucher

Down at the beach hut
for bacon and eggs
Early Saturday morn
No-one else here
just us and the sea
on the beach not long after dawn

Me, two crows and the beach

by Jem Croucher

Just me at the beach hut
the sea and two crows
And what they were up to?
Well I guess no-one knows

Shadow Wave

Shadow cast on turquoise
I raised a hand and waved
One finger on the shutter
for the photo that I saved

Haven by the sea revisited

by Jem Croucher

6 of 7 in the Jemverse ‘Beach Huts’ series

Opened up the beach hut
which needs a lick of paint
But it’s still a lovely place to be
All ours and very quaint

Privilege to share revisited

by Jem Croucher

5 of 7 in the Jemverse ‘Beach Huts’ series

Another lovely end of day
in my favourite place
Sitting in the sunshine
with a big smile on my face

I’d take a little selfie
but I’m pretty sure that you
Would rather see some beach huts
from my favourite sea view

Our happy place II revisited

by Jem Croucher

3 of 7 in the Jemverse ‘Beach Huts’ series

Took a trip to the beach hut
It’s looking quite good
If you don’t look too close
at the oft patched up wood
The locks opened fine
with some lubricant there
and it doesn’t look like
it needs much repair

A ray of sun captured (and revisited)

by Jem Croucher

2 of 7 in the Jemverse ‘Beach Huts’ series

I captured the sunset
at the beach hut today
Late in the evening
with a golden display

Reflective and gorgeous
the warmth of the sun
captured right here
as the day is all done

Beach Breakfast

by Jem Croucher

Saturday morning came and
the sun was nice and bright
A beach breakfast was beckoning
so we rather thought we might
And just as luck would have it
not that far from home
there’s a restaurant right on the beach
(no need to book by phone)

Widewater Teazles

by Jem Croucher

fullsizeoutput_1a28

Widewater teazles
on a cold winter’s day
the air was quite frigid
and the water was grey

There was no-one around
when we got there at three
Just Obi and Basil, our dogs
Sal and me

It’s really nice down here

by Jem Croucher

20160907_151229

I walked the long familiar beach
where houses made of wood
formed from disused railway stock
against the weather stood
All are now long gone of course
but their garden walls remain
Reminding me that wind and sea
will always stake its claim

Special Places

by Jem Croucher

And then there are the special places
Favourites, I guess you’d say
Places where I can find myself
at whatever time of day

I can count them on five fingers
and name them every one
Some work what e’er the weather
but are always best in sun

Lancing Beach II

by Jem Croucher

Lightest of breeze
Salt on the air
Sounds of frivolity
From the sand there
Green on the shingle
Cabbage White
Occasional bird
In lazy flight
