Melting Days

by Jem Croucher
The mercury climbed to forty
for the hottest we had seen
records broken everywhere
from what they once had been
and everybody moaned
as no infrastructure here
to cope with extreme weather
when the high is in the clear
Ice-cream sales and paddling pools
brought respite here to some
but most of us just melted
in this gorgeous summer sun

And the sun shone

by Jem Croucher
And for a while the heat was quite intense
as the sun shone down from the sky
there was barely a breeze
to be felt on our knees
though the cloud to the east wasn't shy

Living in shorts

by Jem Croucher

So I sat in the garden
and it felt very hot
which sat well with me
as, content with my lot
I am best in the sunshine
and the summer sun
living in shorts ’til
the cooler times come

HEAT

by Bhavya Prabhakar, India

The sunburns are red

The tanning is gold

The marks are real

The sweat is glowing

With the heat of the town.

She is burning

He is burning

To fire the conscious

To light the lamp

In the heat of the sun.

Tangible

by Jem Croucher

I was only away for just over a week
But that’s enough to get used to the heat
And enough now I’m home to feel at a loss
And that somehow things aren’t quite complete
It was tangible there, like something you touched
and present by day and at night
But back home in England, there’s a chill in the air
even though the sunshine’s still bright

One of those days

by Jem Croucher

It’s been one of those days
when the lingering heat
makes everyone glisten
from heads to their feet
And there’s nothing to do
when the weather’s like this
Though I know that for many
it borders on bliss

Won’t You Come Back

by graypoet

Come on summer, I know you are out there
I’ve been waiting, your warmth I need to feel
I try to wait until you decide to show yourself
But today I really need you, here’s my appeal.

Hot II

by Jem Croucher

IMGP4837

It’s rather hot
again today
upper thirties
(so some say)
Doesn’t really
bother me
as I’ll be swimming
in the sea

Taste of Truth

submerged in its own current

your feelings, a spoon of oil

By The Wing of Fire

by Venkat

A change from my usual themes 🙂

Flying on a gentle edge

Of the wing of orange fire

Out from the smoky ledge

I consume what I desire

Spouting gallons of heat

I spill waves of freedom

Razing things to the feet

Black as universe, my kingdom
