Vibrant this colour
at this golden time of year
when greenery fades
And the sunset comes
The years' full swansong sings loud
with echos to gold
Leaving me speechless
Silenced by this golden awe
at the curtain call
The golden of the evening
is a lovely thing to see
glistening on forsythia
and shining off its leaves
Particularly through the strands
of our new sunscreen door
colourful it gently sways
which is what we bought it for
And there is birdsong out there
as the sunset it arrives
a joyful song to end the day
and the pleasure it derives
In the churchyard there’s a tree
which is golden at this time
particularly lovely when
on days like this it’s fine
I’m thinking it is magical
with a secret proud to share
showing off its wonder here
to all who stop and stare
Golden the sunshine
Drips from the sky
To the water below
As sunsets come by
And the river just glows
To this golden encore
As I’m caught in the moment
With wonder and awe
It had the power with beauty
to make you stop and stare
and simply marvel at it
or take a picture there
Golden, proud and splendid
not a one passed by
Everybody slowing and
breathing a deep sigh
And so the final sunset
the best was saved ’til last
It really was a gorgeous one
as I walked slowly past
It cast wide golden washes
upon the silken sea
as the tide crept in a final time
from the estuary
Long shadows with October
the days dawn cold and bright
and the sunshine in the eastern sky
provides a gorgeous sight
Glinting on the water
and magnificently gold
Rising over Shoreham beach
to the river in the cold
The day started golden
with promise in store
that there would be warmth
with the sunshine once more
Mid-September but still
the summer is here
Though autumn is calling
and is close by I fear
Silence sang a song
with no words I could hear
Someone said there was an echo
although not anywhere near
It was somewhere out there
across the water at night
quiet and mysterious
and out of my sight
Intangible, there’s something
different in the air
Not too sure about that though
as it’s not, as yet, quite there
Some say it is the Autumn
knocking at the door
Yet today I felt the summer
coming back for more
If I could capture just a little piece
of heaven in a verse
then, by the sunset here last night
I could not, I think, do worse
For, spilling out behind the hills
a golden waterfall of light
which flowed out across the water
to make a truly awesome sight
