Yesterdays

yesterdays stole my shine
to flaunt their windy pride
I wear no coat for smiles
but buttoned by same dews
each morning, every morrow

A Dark Peace

I didn’t mean to be found there
huddled in the corner—
red face and swollen eyes
were to have been protected by
the darkness….

Heavenscent

It possesses a certain
something that soothes
and reminds me of summer
with its calming moods
Just a squeeze of the sachet
when winter is here
or a rub between fingers
when summer is near

First Lavender II

Summer brings a fragrance
which is heaven in a scent
Sweet lavender, my saving grace
my senses to augment

Remnant of Summer

On the breath of a morning
I caught in the air
a lingering fragrance
subtle and rare
A remnant of summer
to cherish and hold
and remain with me as
the autumn turns gold

Lavender for a smile

Yes, I know it looks lovely
in the sunshine out there
But, cropped now its fragrance
is filling the air
So, for double the pleasure
I have a lavender pile
Whilst outside there’s new growth
with crop two for a smile

And Lavender…

One would think that for my birthday
something yellow would appear
Yet though that’s my favourite colour
Something else gives better cheer

Jasmine

Spend an evening in my garden
and I can guarantee you this
You’ll never want to leave again
for the fragrance here is bliss

Mock orange

The mock orange in my garden
has blossomed now it’s May
And its fragrance is abundant
at any time of day
Especially of an evening
when it fills the air with scent
And I stand there for a moment
Breathing in with good intent

Showers of Blessings



For more years than I can remember, drought has cursed our land. In the last week, rains have soaked us to overflowing and is bringing life back to most things we thought dead.

A fragrance lingers

Lingering on the dying embers
of a winter’s day
a subtle fragrance lingers
in a most enticing way
It is partly one of woodsmoke
heavy on the air
and partly one of winter
quintessential there

My Lavender

 

My lavender hides a memory
deep within its scent
One of when the days were warm
and full of good intent
It’s a fragrance steeped in whimsy
which conjures up a smile
as in these winter days I breathe
its aroma in a while

Freshly cut grass

 

I love the smell of grass
that has been freshly mown
for it reminds me of the summer
and the kindness it has shown
There’ve been many days of blue
with not a cloud in sight
When the sun in all its splendour
has shone with all its might

Idyllic

 

I love my garden at this time of year
It is really quite idyllic
Can’t exactly tell you why
as there’s nothing quite specific

But it’s a lot about the colour
and the lushness that’s out here
in the rain or in the sunshine
as it always brings good cheer

Lavender gathering

 

Gathering in the lavender
with little purple flowers
Heady fragrance everywhere
and all this perfume ours

First Lavender

 

First lavender cropped and in a box
on the kitchen table
Sweet and heady perfume aired
as only it is able
My lavender harvest looking good
A bumper crop this year
Exuding fragrance all around
and filling all with cheer

After the rain

Petrichor, a wholesome word
Describing rich perfume
of earth after the rain has come
when summer’s in full bloom

New lavender

New lavender in my garden
In the space beside the pond
It is fragrant and delicious
But delicate still in frond

Last Lavender

 

Summer’s gone from garden now
But there’s still a small trace left
Last lavender braced against the chill
But looks a tad bereft

After the rain

After the rain has gone
There’s a clarity in the air
Reflections in the puddles
Of the blue sky now up there

Pleiades:Linger

Light breeze on petals of thought
Levitate the soul of eternal silence
Let fragrance waft by each corner of mind

Columbine

Columbine’s sweet fragrance dangles.

Like a rusted clasp on a string of pearls, while

the morning doves obsessively peck at nothing. The,

pair, life’s ethereal mate.
