Sylvan

by Jem Croucher

No.9 in the Colloquy series

Darkened the tunnel beckoned
as sunlight filtered through
so gingerly I ventured
to the sylvan place I knew

The sound of trickled water
from the river down below
brought comfort to my quickened step
with beauty there on show

Circle Tree

by Jem Croucher

After the rain the
circle tree curled
its branches deep in the wood
Caught out attention as we passed
as to kindred spirits it should

Wandering

by Jem Croucher

Dappled sunlight
through the leaves
dances underneath
the trees

And with its movement
so do I
slowly as I
wander by

I wonder what’s down there?

by Jem Croucher

I wonder what’s down there, I thought
when wandering through the woods
The pathway looked mysterious
so I went there as I could
It took me to the undergrowth
the canopy complete
And showed me the dark forest
damp sod beneath my feet

Morning Sunlight

by Jem Croucher

Morning sunshine
streaming through
at the start
of this day new
Forest quiet
this time of day
footfall light
I tread my way

Geocaching

by Jem Croucher

imgp1011

With the temperature feeling more like
early summer in the sun
We went geocaching in the forest
All seven having fun
Following co-ordinates
we found clues along the way
whilst pausing for some photographs
on this fine October day

Roadtrip II

by Jem Croucher

imgp9570

We’re off to the New Forest
for a long weekend of fun
Seven of us together
in the cool October sun
We’ve hired a big log cabin
In the woods at Sandy Balls
packing lots of warmer clothes
in case the winter calls

Houses for Eeyore

by Jem Croucher

20160512_124122

Down the hill from Butser
in the bright sunshine
to the ancient woodland there
heading for a climb
A forest that has been here
for a millennia at least
providing a dark canopy
atop a visual feast

New

by Jem Croucher

There is darkness in amongst the trees
Here in Hampshire’s land
A thousand years of history
From William’s era stand
Trenches and Inclosures
Slades and moors and hill
The wild land of New Forest
remaining heathland still

The simple things

by Jem Croucher

We’ve been here before
but the effect is the same
In this place we come back to
again and again
A long tunnel of trees
with sunlight ahead
And the fragrance of forest
in the paths we have led

A walk in the woods

by Jem Croucher

Dappled sunlight filtered through
the green tunnel up ahead
as carefree there we wandered
uncertain where it led

Not that we were bothered
for we cared not for the time
on such an afternoon as this
with autumn weather fine

All I could wish for

by Jem Croucher

Went for a walk ‘neath some gnarly old trees
The sun filtered down on beams through the leaves
with the beginning of Autumn there to perceive
All I could wish for is here.

Starsun

by Jem Croucher

IMGP8572

In the daytime, in the forest
I saw a star up in the trees
High up in the leafy green
Filtered through the leaves
I guess it was quite dark in there
with not a lot of light
So the day could be forgiven
for thinking it was night

In the Creek Bed

by sc0pic

IMG_20140309_144613_193

Late winter, dry creek bed
Scattered and shattered disks of shale and limestone
The crunch of light boot-steps
Children lost in the archeological magic
A welcome respite from the carpet and tile, the processed and humanized
Inhale the echoes of ancient ocean floors, waters long since refrozen and revoked

Pleiades: Your Word

by Venkat

Your word, the shore towards an ocean, unseen
Your word, the cork of a new bottle, untasted
Your word, the shrub in a thick forest, unexplored

I climbed the mountain to the top
Thinking that I would get a great view
Gazing out over the amazing countryside
The beauty I saw was still seeing you.

Do you remember

Remember that ancient wind

Wind that gave breath to the forgotten forests

Forests whose enchanting song woke my soul

Soul that saw the dawn shimmer dancing

Dancing the night away
