First Love

Do you remember
the very first time
you fell in love?
Staying awake
long past bedtime
on a school night

And the butterflies
you felt firing up
in your stomach
every time you
saw her eyes?

A quiet boy, thoughtful. He knows his own mind.
No brighter scholar can anyone find.
Intelligent, young and oh so naive,
That she might love him, so hard to believe.

I Witnessed a Dance

I witnessed the Dance of unscathed hearts
Youthful, new found love
Profoundly sweet, uninhibited dreams
Nary an inkling they’d grow

First Love (Part II)

A chilly autumn, winter apart. Our paths crossed once or twice.
You ignored me, acted just as bad, it really wasn’t very nice.

School trip to Paris, City of Love. No place to be alone.
Wanted to share its lights with you, not to be there on my own.

First Love (Part I)

My memory of those lingering looks across the darkened floor.
I wondered if you felt it too, it left me wanting more.

First I called you on the phone, I asked you out to see.
My sweet sixteen, you came with friends, but all evening spent with me!

We met again on that dance floor, no invite yet to dance.
Another likes you too it seems, can we really have a chance?

Then you called me, one August night, and asked me on a date,
But how could I be certain that you wouldn’t rather just be mates?

Forever

First love can last a lifetime if you never let it go.
First love can hurt forever if you never tell him so.
I wanted him to love me and, if I truly knew it then,
I kept it from us both to prevent our hurt again.

Images etched in my memory

Unexpressed feelings untold

Words in emails, sensory

Smitten by the first sight

An urge to send an email

In her reply, all seemed right

I drifted in her words to sail

Dreams

From dusk until dawn, and all the night long
The memories dance through my mind.
I remember you and me and the way it used to be,
And I wish we could take a trip back in time.
