A Fantasy of Permanent Youth

by HemmingPlay

I’m racing the inevitable,
my only weapon an
optimistic fantasy
of permanent youthfulness.

The 1970s are to blame.
My generation is to blame.
We started this crap,
pretending we could play
where, before,
only teenagers and children could.

My Friend and Her Anxiety

by A. Marie

Over and over on a Ferris wheel, she will not come down,
have her meal, will not admit that she is afraid
that the contraption revolving around her heart may one day die.

She’d rather sit there, all hours, observe the heights
and the tops of towers, reach her fingertips up as she drops
to brush the illusions, feel the felt and wool of a god’s eyelash
she dreamt of the night before.

THE ENDLESS WISH

by thereluctantpoet

By Charles Robert Lindholm

THERE ARE ALWAYS GREENER PASTURES

     THERE ARE ALWAYS BIGGER FISH

     BIGGER, BETTER, DIFFERENT

     IT’S CALLED “THE ENDLESS WISH”

     AN ENDLESS WISH FOR FANTASY

     AND ROMANCE ON DEMAND

Birthday Request

by HemmingPlay
Pillars of Creation: interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, some 6,500-7,000 light years from Earth where stars are born

“Pillars of Creation”: Hubble photo of interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, some 6,500-7,000 light years from Earth where stars are born

In case anyone’s interested,
I’d like the superpower of “Folding” for my birthday.
It cuts out the middle man
to command space and time
with no bureaucracy.

Like a cosmic calendar with tricky bits.
I’d fold weeks, months, years, centuries together,
jump to any time, past or future.
The first would be hanging with
the first human band to walk out
of Africa 60,000 years ago.
I’d wait in the shade of a date palm,
on the banks of the Nile,
bouncing rocks off the skulls of crocodiles,
keeping an eye out to the south.
I would get a fire going and
cook hot dogs and hamburgers,
and have beer chilling on ice.
History’s first tailgate.

Dragon and the Flea

by The Poetry Channel

“There is no chink in my armor,”
said the dragon to the flea.
“So why do you explore my scales?”,
it asked inquisitively.

“I have a need to drink your magic
so that I might leap high and far.
It is my wish to leave this earth,
to live among the stars”.
