I'm curled in a circle in my little bed
on the floor in the room where I rest my head
when I'm not barking or running instead
as mostly I need a good nap
I'm curled and I'm comfy and that's a no-brainer
as with anything else I'd be quite the complainer
for comfortable snoozes I'm a canine campaigner
as mostly I need a good nap
October shadow, Obi's field
in the heart of Sussex Weald
barely was the warmth concealed
in the autumn now
Walked a mile around the place
felt again familiar grace
with the sunshine on my face
in the autumn now
In his favourite chair he sleeps
whilst words behind him flow
the poet's dog oblivious
to this refined tableau
Yet his presence is a comfort
as there once in a while
the poet looks up from his work
and sees him with a smile
On a bright day in September when out for a walk
with my G-pa and G-ma for a sniff and a talk
they showed me the sights, the river and such
but I have to say now, can't remember that much
Took a selfie with Wolfgang (me in the red)
Two chaps on the sofa rear-facing instead
He belongs to my daughter and son-in-law, Lee
but I've known him since birth so he's precious to me
Two good friends together for the selfies one takes
captured there in a moment for memories to make
My professional qualifications
are my paws and yes, my ears
and I've been honing up my skills
for over seven years
My whiskers? Yes, they play a part
as does my curly tail
but when push comes to the shove
my paws and ears regale
For I am dog and this is what
I need to remain regal
and do the job that I'm here for
to care for both my people
A Woozle went a-running
in a field in the sun
his ears pointing upright
as he galloped on the run
Thunderpaws by nature
they were thundering today
as he ran around in circles
with a 'hip hip hip hooray'
For this was joy unbridled
unfettered running free
expressed there in his features
with a dog smile full of glee
Wolfgang on the garden bench
panting in the sun
whilst I sit down relaxing
now my working week is done
The warmth today is growing
so whilst I am sitting here
he's given his permission
for me to have a nice cold beer
Seven years of Star Wars days
we've had this little chap
the dog of many, many names
so let's give him a clap
Obi Wan Kinobi is
his proper name of course
hence 'May the fourth be with you'
as he is strong with 'the force'
But he has many others
to numerous to repeat
as he is a very special friend
who makes our lives complete
A fine dapper gentleman regal and proud
posed for a picture and stared
Ears at the ready, heightened sense alert
whiskers quivered as his nostrils flared
For this was his field, his fiefdom, his rule
for circles and drifting and more
with his humans in tow he embodied the joy
for the running which all dogs adore
In our garden every year
for as long as I recall
we've had a hunt at Easter
when children have a ball
eggs hidden in strange places
whoops and shouts of joy
all these years in passing
from three girls and a boy
I'm back here in my favourite field
drifting circles in the wind
my little ears all streamlined
as my jowls assume a grin
for this is my enjoyment
my happy time and more
running free for ages
cool earth beneath my paws
My humans shiver in the chill
but I just run and run
as I'm here in my element
in this my field of fun
The Wolf and I we went for a walk
down by the river and more
and he wagged his tail and pricked up his ears
at most everything that he saw
We walked down the towpath and looked at the planes
in the airport nearby
and as we walked home his tail wagged again
as some of them took to the sky
Too cold in the field
in the rain yesterday
as my legs are quite short
in a small canine way
alright for my humans
in warm coats and hats
but a different thing
for small furry chaps
so we didn't stay long
just a short trot around
for a sniff and a wee
on the water-logged ground

The Houndie House sled has been up now for weeks
for reindeer dogs to pose by
but whenever we go
our reindeer says 'no'
so we'll make do with this with a sigh

Obi the Squidge is a dog of small stature
but although his legs may be short
he knows what is what
and the good life he's got
and he's fast enough not to be caught
Obi the Squidge has a brain that is cunning
so when he sees something he's not allowed
he waits til time's right
and then out of sight
makes off with the prize feeling proud

Two-balls Wolfgang's looking forward to Christmas
with the wonderful smells round about
he knows something's afoot
but he needs to stay put
and resist the call of his snout
The beach was quite splendid but isn't it always
when with Wolfgang or there on our own
with the blue of the sky
and the huts by the by
it's a joy to have this close to home
It's great in the Summer and on bright days in Spring
and in Autumn with waves whipped by storm
with the pebbles and sand
the sea of course and
here on Winter days all dressed up warm
In seven tree field Santa's sleigh had arrived
and Obi sniffed inquisitively
We paused for a snap
with the little chap
before he ran off for a wee
In seven tree field December has come
but it's still not really that cold
The trees are now bare
but none of us care
for they've left the grass covered in gold
I waved a long shadow
by a favourite tree
in a favourite field
where I love to be
the sunshine was bright
but with rain in the air
though sadly no rainbow
was evident there
But as usual the joy
of the wander we had
in Seven Tree Field
just made our hearts glad
and our little dog, Obi
he ran and he ran
with exuberant gait
with which all dogs can
This place, this haven
it's all of us
and we all miss it
if because
for some misfortune
or mishap
we have to tell
the little chap
there'll be no running
through the grass
or round the corner
as we pass
Had a Mangolicious Laines
a lovely IPA
fruity and refreshing
at the end of a long day
Eating at the Open House
all my girls and me
and a lovely Wolfgang
for a delicious tea
In my room
I have my stuff
and it is lovely
here because
it's somewhere I
can come and play
at any time
on any day
sometimes a game
or music here
or writing poems
to bring me cheer
and my small dog
young 'Obi' there
will safely snooze
and with me share
this little room
where I can come
and be myself
and have some fun
I am a dog of many names
but one that's apt of late
is 'Thunderpaws' that's come about
from changes to my gait
Let me explain, if you've a mo
you see, 'most every week
my humans both provide the chance
for freedom so to speak
For I should add I am a dog
who's not good in the street
but get me to an open field
and life for me is sweet
Took a picture of the yellow
in my garden as one does
'cos they are really lovely
so I snapped them there because
I thought they'd make a picture
to put up as a snap
so I was quite surprised
to find I'd caught a little chap
Picked up a Wolfgang
he came for the day
went back to Shoreham
for gardens and play
whilst his Mum was at work
and so he's not alone
as he likes to be with us
in this home from home
Obi-Wan Kinobi
five years ago today
came to join our family
hip-hip, hip-hip, hooray
So May the Fourth
be with you here
with Obi-Wan
to bring you cheer
