4 of 12 in the ’12 months VI’ series from Jemverse
It's the first day of December
the last month of the year
and just three weeks til Solstice
that day is almost here
when daylight hours get longer
and winter starts to fade
and I begin to hope for time
when warmer ones are made
A ‘beginning’ verse to end the year
with the coming of December
The twelfth month dawns and starts today
in this year we’ll all remember
And though one filled with tragedy
Twenty-twenty ends with hope
for with December comes a vaccine
to help the world to cope
December is here and as the first arrives
I am content for Christmas
to make its annual entrance
November’s too early or course
But this year there were ads in October
which borders on a step too far.
There was gold on the horizon
Out there across the sea
As we drove back into Shoreham
My soulmate, Sal and me
It filled the sky above us
With clouds tinged pink and bright
Heralding a promise
As we’re told to bring delight
These berries red, they are so bright
and vibrant in the sun
Resplendent in their colour
now December has begun
They grow here in the same place
that I see them every year
And never fail, I’ll have you know
to bring a sense of cheer
There’s blossom in the bushes
even though it’s now December
And I know it’s been quite warm of late
but you’d think it would remember
That winter sun although still bright
deceives with days of chill
and Spring is several months away
with quite some waiting still
