Winch upon waking; the night is not gone.
Harangue at your terrors that sweep along the walls.
Make a shotgun of your pillow, throw lightning at the mirror.
What would the darkness have of you? Mass marketer of
fears, has aligned itself with your cheek, weaving your spittle
into the phantom.

As we walk our backs are low, our hearts pointing into our guts,
roll and hardened into seashells, gripped inside, the soft parts threatening
to spill onto the carpet.
We are not being defeated by malice – just absent-minded greed.
The foundation is removed brick by brick beneath our reddened soles.

I know that I forgot to love you.
I know that I forgot to sew back on the sleeve.
I know that the arm that is now bare, and bears the marks,
forgot to extend, grasp, and lift he.
I am aware that I was born.
I am aware I am less than what was allotted to me.
I am aware that I caused great harm,
that I never granted explanation to she.

Hot slap slips loose the animal,
night jasmine burns in Asia, the Isle of Man
sinks into the Irish Sea, Solomon Islands
grow legs and head north
to eat Okinawa, chop every cherry bloom
into kindling
to feed the storm.

Chitin dreams are shredded under foot, and scars
With crooked knees slowly make their way down the road.
Limping, with coat collars pulled high to cover up their chins,
Their lips, their delicate seeds of hope they keep balanced
Upon the palm of their tongues, so they continue.

Bloodworm of my heart you feed on
Bloodmeal, bloody meat, tarantulas whose bodies
Sing in whistles whilst they smoke and die.
As a mahogany seed you birthed into the bloodwood tree,
Your bloodline a thin, red ribbon, crossing over the moor.

Black is . . .
The color of infinity
The color of a new-moon night
The color of secrecy
The color of a dream that never takes flight

hear ye, hear ye,
what will ye give
for this thing its master
deemed not fit to live
hear ye, hear ye
what will ye proffer
for this bundle of warm flesh
come, reach deep in thy coffer

Nowhere is safe,
I’ve heard it said.
One place is safe–
Inside my head.

I summon thee, oh Sin Eater
Come to me this night.
Break your bread upon my marble breast,
Your wine from my belly white.

I am mute . . .
too much screaming deafens love.
I am blind . . .
angry eyes bring down darkness.
I can’t taste . . .
foul bitterness coats my tongue.

Dark woods, deep woods, deathly woods,
Through them I rush-race-run.
Moon glows, moon shows, moon knows,
Soon I will be done.
Bog sucks, bog slurps, bog swallows,
Stealing the boots from my feet.
Briars snatch, briars catch, briars latch,
Determined we shall meet.

Clinging to shadows
Floating in space
Noise-less wonder
Endless race
Crossroads scratched
Bridges down
Storms are coming
no way around
