featured as it should
along with a veggie breakfast
from the menu which looked good
Shared with jocund company
conversation for a smile
here at our Al Campo
where we come once in a while

watching through plate glass windows

edges fogged

rendering the scene inside

a soft feathered oval

Aroma of coffee

faint but distinct

Breakfast at the Outdoor Cafe

She brings coffee and croissants to eat
While fat pigeons peck food at my feet
Seeking crumbs out of love
I might drop from above
As I search for her smile when we greet.

Jewel Box in Thornton Square

Jangles of glassware, in the hearth is a pod
of pale periwinkle, mauve, diamonds of cigarette ends
flare like sparks in the dimness.

And from here, outside, I see a man and woman laughing.
Clinking their smartphones like beer mugs,
crossing their hearts and hoping
not to die old.
