Ringing Sussex (revisited)

by Jem Croucher

5 of 10 in the Jemverse ‘Sussex’ series

Today we walked from Ring to Ring
beneath a winter sky
The sun shone bright despite the threat
of rainfall by and by

Plans long laid, fruition saw
a walk unlike no other
With smile and gusto two men went
friends yes, but also brothers

Walking and Uno

by Jem Croucher

This week accommodation
was booked for us in May
when my brother Dave and I
have our walking holiday
Once more the South Downs beckon
here in Sussex where we live
And we’ll be out there walking
as they have so much to give

Two Rings

by Jem Croucher

Two rings on the final day
Familiarity
A walk which we have made our own
my brother Dave and me
A circle of eight miles
chalky trails beneath our feet
The sunshine smiling once again
to make the week complete

Long Awaited

by Jem Croucher

A day long awaited
arrives and I’m ready
Gear is all packed
and weather looks steady
Dry bags for the rain
if it comes just in case
But I’m hoping that they
will remain in their place

Sixty miles

by Jem Croucher

Sixty miles we’ve walked this week
The legs are tired as are the feet
But it has really been a blast
and we’ve walked the Downs Link trail at last

The weather’s been it’s fickle self
the rain and shine all good for health
Two days of sun and one of rain
But on this the fourth the sun again

Out there

by Jem Croucher

Saw the Adur valley
from the top deck of a bus
It looked ever so inviting
and more so today because
At last with backpacks on
my brother Dave and I
are finally out there walking
‘neath a promising blue sky

Getting wet

by Jem Croucher

Chanc 3.4.13

Like peas in a pod, my brother and I
Stand out in the rain whilst others keep dry
‘That seems really strange’ I hear you all cry
But you’ve not yet heard the reasoning why

The Lost Brother

by S. K. Reiter

Step-by-step and one-by-one,
he was always a very methodical son.
As a boy so very sweet, funny and kind,
a better brother, I doubt, you’ll rarely find.

He left the state to make his fate,
to a school in New York, he took their bait.
A teacher of children, a lover of life,
he works out everyday, but doesn’t have a wife.

Nothing in common and very little to say,
he’s on his journey and we are in his way.
He doesn’t write, email or call,
he’s doing his thing and it’s not at the mall.
