It Only Takes
A Little Bit Of Lace
To Ruin A Marriage
Especially,
If You Remove It
From A Woman
In A Hotel Room
Who Isnāt Your Wife

I encountered a young Colorado woman, once,
from a distance. Our trails crossed in our personal badlands.
A beauty, she had the raw fire of a mustang.
I caught her at a terrible time in her life.
Or should I say, she caught me.
Her marriage was coming apart,
her husband having lost interestĀ andĀ sunk into cruelty and betrayals.
We never met, except
as passing
electronic ghosts. She writhed and wrote of her pain,
her bruised pride and injured beauty.
She touched us with her anger and anguish,
her soul’s search for beauty nonetheless,
In that state she painted lurid images of
what she would do with me,
to me, what she wanted from me,
pinned against a wall, legs apart,
full of anger, fury, revenge.

She Heard The Door
Firmly Shut Behind Her
Then Slowly Turned Around
To Take A Final Look
As The Whisper From Her Heart
Said,
“Sometimes
There Is No Going Back”

Sitting Alone At The Bar
Nursing A Whiskey
In The Middle Of The Afternoon
With A Far Away Look In His Eyes
I Sat Down Next To Him
And Asked The Barkeep For A Beer
To Quench The Thirst
Of A Humid Summer Day

Night is here and am ready to sleep
but my pillow is not ready to weep
Everyday it wipes away my tears
But every night I have my fears
I struggle each day to smile
Sometimes it seems forever, for a while
The agony doesn’t ends here
each new moment is a wear and tear
Inside I fight a constant war
But again love is my only hope I am living for.

I paused for a moment, watching the haze of condensation on the outside of my wine glass.
“Yes. It’s true that I made some bad decisions and telling myself that they were made with best of intentions… well, we can talk about that crap later. Bottom line is, I never pretended to be someone’s friend and then moved in on their husband the second that the wife was out of the picture.”

The trust I had in you,
Misguided
Was a stranger to your pull
In your sparkling waves
Delighted
Your will so powerful

They came, the planet eaters, they trundled on and on they came upon us quietly so at first we did not notice anything was wrong.
The were tall and they were frightening with a wiry and metal shape, they crept up on us silently and left us wide eyed with mouth agape.
Where once was green meadow is now just dust and sand.

I shall not run I shall not hide
I’ll face the void with my eyes open wide.
I shall call up my warrior from within
and hone my sword the battle to begin
If I must make sense of what is my worth.
I shall do it now I shall justify my time on earth.
Each time the void comes for me
I make the mistake of either drowning or trying to flee.
Why do I do this time after timeĀ both paths are futile
I end up broken, spent and feeling vile.

It took two bad lungs
And a broken heart
To finally tear
My world apart
Barely alive
In intensive care
Hoping friends would
Visit me there
Most were too busy
To visit at all
To send a card
Or bother to call

I never saw them face to face but I knew that they were there. The sniper had me fixed between his wires, the burning pin points in my back was his stare.
I could not trust him I could not let my guard slip, one second off the ball and he would fell me like a whip. I had to watch the children and the women too, well I was not on their side and if the boot was on the other foot I’d expect the same from you.

Raindrops came down
Like a shower of lead bullets
Mingled with the brine spill
From mine eyes and soaked into my soul
But dried up before they reached the roots
The thunder and bullets
persevered
*
Deep inside there is a drought
No rain nor tears could quench
You left me barren and hollow
Spoiled any chance of love and trust
I had to offer a body in this miserable world
Why did you go?
*

I am the raindrop
That falls on her
Cheek in the drizzle
I cool her hot face
Troubled by betrayal
*
I am a raindrop
On your porch rail
I observe you reading
The papers, your reactions
Your annoyance,
Your anger
*

You decided not to talk,
you let me ramble on.
You didn’t think it important,
to tell me what was wrong.
You went on with your life,
found other birds of a feather.
You didn’t once remember,
the tears we shared together.
