It's the first day of April and typical showers
I'd like to think here will be absent, not ours
For we've had quite our fill in March that's now past
of rain falling down, enough to well last
and do us for Spring which I hope is now here
Now April's upon as at this time of year

Summer in April

At the end of April, summer
made an early show of hand
as the sun shone warm on Sussex
fair across this pleasant land
So I put a best foot forward
took advantage with no shame
once more into the hedgerow
bordered pathways, trails and lane
Exploring parts of Sussex
I had never been before
in this lovely springtime sunshine
as that's just what it is for

Biding Time

In the grass getting greener
there are dandelions hiding
getting bolder with yellow
but time still abiding
because here just in April
the warmth's still a tease
so they need something more
to be fully at ease

First of April here for fools
yet no prank here but truth
for this is now the time of Spring
when nature shows its youth
There's evidence of that all around
with bluebells in the grass
and the yellow of forsythia
as winter breathes its last
And I for one I welcome this
fresh nuance of the year
as sunshine bears its testament
for days of warmth and cheer

and with prelude to laughter
dance as Spring looks to Summer

Three months have gone and
April is here and
the world is a different place
Enforced isolation
keeps us apart
as if we had fallen from grace

Diamond daisy April skies
Showers, maybe, cuckoo cries
Warmer days as winter dies
Spring is clearly here

Days are longer from sunrise
Fewer lows and many highs
Things are growing, no surprise
Summertime is near

Splash

Felt a tiny splash
as I walked along the beach
Precipitation from the sky
just there out of reach

Cool, the April weather
had made me wrap up warm
So a little rain this time of years’
in keeping with the norm

Bliss by the water

Down by the waterside
in April sunshine
In the city of Bristol
with weather so fine

There’s history here
from when I was a boy
I’m re-visiting now
with an aim to enjoy

Heatwave

A heatwave in April?
Don’t mind if I do
Well, you would if it’s offered
and free, wouldn’t you?
So here’s to the sunshine
and long may it stay
at least throughout April
and well into May

Filling Summer’s boots

And, as they promised, sunshine
burned in the sky today
A cloudless blue spread overhead
with warmth akin to May

Yet it is still mid-April
several more months still
for warmth to build to sultry heat
and summer’s boots to fill

Pink and gorgeous

It was there in mid April
delivered with grace
Pink and quite gorgeous
and right in my face

To sunshine I defer

April showers
or sunshine
I know which I’d prefer
Golden shafts v greyish strokes
To sunshine I defer

Twelves Months Four

No.9 of 12 in the Jemverse ’12 months’ series

Here’s to the humble daisy
as April comes at last
Perhaps now the sun will shine
with winter months now past
Goodness knows, we need it
coats and jumpers need a rest
for now it’s time for warmer things
and times we love the best

A cream tea with scones
in April sunshine
Temperatures rising
and everything’s fine

April

April cast a shadow
though I’m not in mind to care
for it was one cast by the sunshine
and the Springtime almost there
