I get my inspiration for limericks from many things (other than politics.) Goofy things that goofy friends say and, of course, social media are good sources for jokes and punchlines. I saw this meme on Facebook and knew as soon as I saw it, it was a limerick or two waiting to happen.

Staying home is the right thing to do. But it is not easy. You have a lot of time to think about our uncertain future and that leads to anxiety. And it is boring. But when there is nothing to do, there is always something you can do…..

Your dreams do not predict the future,
Be relieved they process the past
So you can function this morning.
Your fear still burns
The sweet blood in your veins,
It contaminates your heart.

long lodged in the back of my throat
has begun to melt
syllable by delicious syllable
that tickle going down
roil in my gut

Over and over on a Ferris wheel, she will not come down,
have her meal, will not admit that she is afraid
that the contraption revolving around her heart may one day die.
She’d rather sit there, all hours, observe the heights
and the tops of towers, reach her fingertips up as she drops
to brush the illusions, feel the felt and wool of a god’s eyelash
she dreamt of the night before.

The opposite of courage
The backside of love & creativity
Its tendrils approach from behind
Silently wrapping themselves around your neck
Until you are paralyzed
Suffocating in its sticky web

Punch and Judy’s Carribean Vacation (Photo credit: _william)
Do you know,
the other side of me?
Where the grass is greener,
and the soul is darker.
Do you know only,
my second face?
Not like the rest,
the one I keep for best.

The days end so quickly,
But the night end so slowly,
Never have I thought that it would cut through me…
This borderline anxiety.
And yet, the candle still shines.
Hope strikes me through the lines.
Difficult and such a train-wreck life can be…
But nothing can surpass the innate spirit in me!
