We went down to Drusillas
for our anniversary
four of us this time, Bezza
Sally, Grace and me
There were parties of schoolchildren
but we made an escape bid
and marched on up ahead of them
so from the masses hid

Sal and I as senior citizens
got cheaper entry too
First time to take advantage
just for asking, as you do
And we made sure that we got there
when it opened on the dot
As that’s always best on days like this
especially when it’s hot

The Girls

by The Cheesesellers Wife

They comment as they watch me weed
and as I go, they start to plead
for freedom from their boring pen
restrictive to a busy hen.

Tsuyu: The Rainy Season

by Nick Anthony

As the conductor takes the stage,
The gentle drone of the audience
Turns to apprehensive, expectant silence
Awaiting the impending down stroke.

But before the ictus,
His rushing lift of the baton
Sends forth a gust of wind,
Chilling the air,
While raising the heat of anxiety.

The other nations of this Earth

by The Cheesesellers Wife

The other nations of this Earth live along side us
Misunderstood, undervalued, used and abused
So many of us not longer see them
We fortunate few may wilfully misunderstand

This week you’ll find me writing
about an animal each day
So here’s two Capybara
‘What’s that?’ I hear you say
The largest rodent in the world
and roughly four feet long
They’re related to the Cavie
and grunt or whistle for a song

This week you’ll find me writing
about an animal each day
And though the choice is massive
Alpacas do deserve a say
And there are three here in particular
that I wanted to include
For as they made a special effort
not to do so would be rude

This week you’ll find me writing
about an animal each day
So, for Wednesday, here’s a mention
of the pig. ‘Hoorah!’ you say
A whoop indeed appropriate
for this most noble creature
Which I am proud to here include
and in this poem feature

This week you’ll find me writing
(continuing with a leap)
about an animal each day
and today concerns a sheep
We think of them as stupid
but I’m not having that at all
For I know they have intelligence
like this one on a wall

Animals, they’re wonderful
so many of them here
Always serve to cheer me up
whenever they are near
So this week you’ll find me writing
and starting here right now
about an animal each day
beginning with the cow

What’s The Best Pet for a Girl When She’s Four?

by PookyH

Life was exciting for a girl named Ellie,
She was planning a party with cake cards and jelly,
In a very short time she was going to be four,
She was excited about not being three anymore.
The party aside she had reason to smile,
You see she’d been asking her Mum for a while,
If she could have a pet, but Mum always said no,
But for her fourth birthday Mum promised to go
To the pet shop with Ellie and buy her a pet,
Now the big question was about which pet to get.
Can I please get an ant? Ellie questioned her Mum.
They build little tunnels, to watch would be fun!

Wildly Cruel

by Kerrie Ann Salsac

Yet another day is dawning,

the sun chasing away the night.

The wilderness is bathed in light,

creatures large and small are yawning,

hunting to whet their appetite.

Lapping up the chilly water,

from rivers flowing to the sea.

Hiding amongst the tall pine trees

so as to avoid their slaughter.

Building warm dens so not to freeze.

Whose Bones Are These?

by Bodhirose

Hiking along the well-worn path

always looking down ahead of me,

I spy some bones laid out neatly.

They’re tiny and delicate,

perfect in form of the animal

that once had enclosed them.
