Mirage

by sheketechad

We peer as if behind delicate lace-work to soften
Need – weighted with a terrible tinge, puce maybe?
Whispering aches only heard by wall art
Behind cool darkened doors of solitude.

It appears in couched terms
Divulged in metaphor, spun in rhyme
Shrouded in lyrical prose; mirages no one sees but
All see, in this overcrowded desert of bodies.

Under the Childish Moon

by sheketechad

Awash in the light of innocence
Feet dangling in the fountain of youth
Back when monsters were truly imaginary

Lazing in the grass watching
Cloud animals on parade
The perspective of trees varied

Losing one’s heart
Just part of ‘Operation’
Not a game people played in real life.

She Doesn’t Mourn Well

by sheketechad

Grace there used to be in the mourning
Banded arms, veil-shrouded tears
Private yet publicly seen scenes
Black cars with black windows
To hold the bleakness inside

So that it doesn’t leak out and get on passers-by

Why did it have to come the year she understood
there is no afterlife
This is life, get after it
One per customer, one size fits most
Unless you have the imagination for two

Which proves good, since she is one now.

Why did he write for forever preserved in words, her manna
His inked fingerprints staining the paper
“I hope this is your best year yet”
In the year that all colors turned to ash, heart turned into
Endless forms, mailings, courtrooms

The vagaries of dead life

The Soliloquy of Sea Glass

by sheketechad

The Soliloquy of Sea Glass

Discards we are, emptied of value
Cast aside, forgotten, meaningless
Our varied hues bartered no regard
In being retained, kept or refilled.

Some shattered while some whole
Stripped of purpose, riding hither
And yon upon the global currents
Which we could not control

Our original intent was consumed
Then invalidated by our abrupt release,
That weighted existence forced
A downward path into the dark

Further indignities awaited there,
As a million sand particles dug
Into us, abrided, scratched and
Scarred; change forced harshly upon us

Sheet Music

by sheketechad

Sheet Music

If I were a melody in your mind, how would you write me?
In Adagio perhaps, as in the best way to approach.
Would you linger over Staccato, to match your heartbeat in my presence?
And although some may prefer Delicato,
It seems best paired with Appassionato, as two hearts enfold into one.

With tempo written, how would then you elicit my sound?
Gentle finger strokes upon ivory, scaling the highs and lows
Lovingly drawing a bow long and slow across heartstrings, echoing
Would you form the strong embouchure required of the reeds and brass
Or be the pounding, driving force holding together the pace found in the percussion line.

Juggle Not

by sheketechad

Audio Recording Here

I was busy juggling all of the expectations

So I didn’t see what there was to see

Or where I was going

But only where I thought you thought I should be going

My traveling clothes were always ready

For whatever you could envision

“I’m there” I’d cry excitedly and off we’d go

To someplace foreign and exotic designed by your mind.

And when our roads parted with mortality

Having the last laugh, I was lost

Dropped in a desert of emotional minefields

Littered with would, should, could and what if’s.

Inconclusive

by sheketechad

Click here for the audio version

It is there, and it whispers in and among thoughts

Barely evident, like a shadow, perhaps imagined

Draping my collarbone weightlessly

Taking my elbow and guiding through the crowd in my mind

Turn my head, trying to avoid it, not look at it

But wanting to look far more closely

Daring not, it is too early

For looking askance at something intangible

Weaver of Words

by sheketechad

What can I weave for you today?

The Weaver asks

Ferreting for what you are seeking

You see, words in the right hands

Weave greater, more durable textiles

than the finest weavers of tapestry.

Memory Hangover

by sheketechad

Memory Hangover

I opened up the magnum of memorabilia that is
Life, until death did us part
And let the warm taste of remembered love
Fill my mouth, overflow my lips and spill onto my chest.

As it soaked into my skin near my breastbone
It felt heavier than before
When it was a living thing
Infused with the daily breathing in of you

I traced the line of your jaw on the screen
Looked deep into your brown lively eyes
And fell backwards in time
Like a drunken sailor on first shore leave

As I fell, images flashed past my mind’s eye
Sex on the beach (and not in a cup)
A fight in an alley in a downpour
People-watching from balconies, making up their lives in snippets

Broken bones and torn flesh in a hospital bed
Pale freckled face awash in computer screen back-light
Frolicking with the dogs in the pasture with frost
Hands on my shoulders and a kiss on the head

Scaffold Of Words

by sheketechad

Scaffold of Words

If you cannot feel me through my written words
Then you will never grasp me in person
For my words are the architecture of my inner most parts.
Secret things hung out to dry in front of you.

If I do not resonate with you through my written words
Then you will never hear me when I am there
For standing unguarded and wordless before you
How will you hear the things I long to say to you?
