A “Your Vote Counts The Same As One Rich Person’s Vote” Limerick 1.2

by Joel Kravitz

vote 2020

I was writing political limericks during and soon after the 2016 election, but I was overwhelmed by the change in the political climate and the events that came with it. I couldn’t keep up with it. And, I felt that it might even be dangerous to continue. You never know who is reading them and keeping score.

Talking To Myself

talking to myself

After hearing this question way too many times,
I guess a formal answer is due.
Since the voices you’re hearing are not in my head,
You’re wondering, “Who are you talking to?”

Every government around the world is pounding out this message loud and clear non-stop. We have a world health crisis. Science and data says this is a best practice to contain it and diminish its deadly effects.

The World Wide Web And Social Media

by Joel Kravitz

the internet

I spend so much time in front of screens – a television, a computer, and a “smart” phone – trying to digest so much that they put in front of me. Are we an advanced worldwide society because we are connected by worldwide communication technology? With what we have been seeing on all the screens for the last week, that would be a difficult question to answer.

Words of Advice to the Recent College Graduate

by Joel Kravitz

graduation-celebration

College graduates have been cheated out of some of the best parts of graduating from college – that last month of college, last parties, taking that last final and walking out of that last classroom and realizing that it’s over and donning a cap and gown and walking across the stage and receiving your diploma. A virtual graduation just isn’t the same even though it comes with a graduation speaker giving a motivational speech.

An I’m Still Staying Home Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

stayhomesafely-

If patience is a virtue, then I’m going to be a saint.

Shakespeare was not going to the beach during the plague. He knew better. Hamlet had this to say about it – ‘Tis better to bear the ills we have than fly to others that we know not of.  And we know of the ills of COVID19. The numbers speak for themselves.

A Memorial Day Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

Memorial-Day-Celebrate-Honor-Remember

Today is a National Holiday honoring all of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep the world safe from the worst evil and inhumanity known to man. Their sacrifice is the reason we have the freedom that we live under in the greatest country in the world. It is a day to reflect upon how a nation united can overcome anything that threatens our freedom. Happy Memorial Day.

A Pandemic Worst Practice Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

pandemic protestor

There are no problems that “ignore it and maybe it will go away” won’t make worse, especially health problems. I borrowed the gist of that statement from AA, which believes in admission and support as the foundation for solving the problem. Admission and support are exactly what is needed now to solve the pandemic problem. Anything other than that will only exacerbate it.

A Pandemic Appearance Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

old-age-retirement-beard-man-finger-squat-guru 2

I can’t post a selfie because it would be a scary. I look like a cross between Santa Claus and Doc Brown from Back To The Future. I start every day the same way. I walk into the bathroom, look in the mirror, scream, do a costume change from pj’s to sweatpants and head to the kitchen to make coffee.

A Mother’s Day Meal Fit For A Queen Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

mother's day meal

I am a foodie and I belong to many FB food groups including a few with names specific to the pandemic. I know all about #stayhomeandcook and #stayhomeandeat. I have done lots of both and written a few limericks about it. I love seeing all the creativity and beautiful presentations of everyone cooking while staying home. It was especially great to see all the effort that went into cooking for Mother’s Day. I know that everyone will agree that being a mother may be the most essential job needed during these uncertain times. Job well done everyone.

Staying home is the right thing to do. But it is not easy. You have a lot of time to think about our uncertain future and that leads to anxiety. And it is boring. But when there is nothing to do, there is always something you can do…..

A “Pandemic Indoor Golf” Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

putting

A friend was lamenting how the pandemic was hurting his golf game. #Stayhomestaysafe does not get you out to the golf course or the driving range despite actually being an activity that can have social distancing built into it provided that you walk and don’t take a golf cart. There’s a lot of room out there. But when all the room that you have is the living room, then you have to be creative. And have an openminded, cool partner.

An Acrostic “HEROS” Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

real heros

After watching more news on television than I ever have in my life, I am appalled at how politics and political figures are dealing, or not dealing, with the pandemic in such self-serving ways. There have been some exceptions who have demonstrated decisive leadership, and, unfortunately, the news focuses on those that haven’t. But what we have seen everyday is the exceptional courage and determination of the actual boots-on-the-ground frontline “soldiers” battling the pandemic every minute of every day. They are and will be remembered as the real HEROS
