Joy Abounding

Collapsed into my garden chair
Melancholy wrapped my heart
I cried out: Life’s unfair!
But, gray despair would not depart

More than sunshine met me there
Warmth flooded the depths of my soul
Sadness ran as did every care
Rays of Love’s Light made me whole

Intense, so bright
Lit up the world
That Holy night

Babe in a manger
Where Heaven met earth
Shepherds in wonder
Scores of angels rejoiced

Fall!

Hazy light
Sun low in sky
Longer night
Summer flowers dim and die

Harvest of corn
Bales of hay
Fields look falorn
Pine trees sway

But, orange galore!
Gourds and pumpkins abound

Rain

A smell; a fragrance in the air
A sense, something on its way
A feeling in my bones
A distant sound, barely heard

Pitter pat, pitter pat
A clink, a clang
Tap, tap, tap
Pitter pat, pitter pat

Tires on wet pavement
Rushing winds
Drumming on roof tops
Grass glistening green

Longing in my soul

I hunger for something solid
A touch that soothes my soul
Genuine Presence of God
That fills up this “heart-hole”

Sure, I have salvation
My Savior is Everything
Yes, I have Spirit revelation
Joy of Him makes me sing

Still, there must be more than this

Autumn stepped out of Summer

Pumpkins, squash, dried corn
Yellow leaves, red and orange
Windy blustery days
Walking through a corn maze

Flowers fading, some brown
Fields a golden crown

Hazy sky
Bits of blue
Sea gull cry
Amazing view

Crashing waves
Jagged rocks
Watery caves
Shell strewn spots

Holy!
Yes, holy night.

Star!
Magnificent and bright.

Angels!

Sage Advice

On vacation years ago on a 100 degree day in June
I was looking for something fun to do that afternoon
At the Tourist Info booth I stumbled upon a gnarly old man
He rocked back and forth in his chair; used his hat as a fan

I asked him what there was to do in his mountain town
He looked up at me and slowly knit his brow

The Fence

Sun baked boards
Worn wood, ragged
Cracked, dry
Bleached, faded

Knots and holes
Ribs and spines
Like dead bones
Standing against time

City Garden

Not often is there city quietness
Really wonderful peace
No neighbor’s craziness
No noisy equipment blowing leaves

Traffic just a steady hum
No children’s laughs or screams
No music loud with drums
Or, skateboard kids in jeans

The Wind

Warm all over
Sitting in the sun
Delicate breeze blowing
Gently moves my hair

Unseen fingers brush my face
Right, then left, then gone
Momentary boisterous wind
Cooling head to toe

Silken tapping on my arms
Then stillness
Nothing at all,
Surprise! Gusty joy! Gone again…

By the River

Rushing water
Sparkling cascade
Clapping, laughing
Dancing white spray

Rollercoaster ride
Crashing over rocks
Wet shiny boulders
Glistening black blocks

Swirling, foaming
Suddenly calm
Rivulets waltzing
Reflecting the sun

Glorious Red

Flowers among leafy green
Lips on a commercial screen
Color of a fire truck
Crest on a beautiful duck

Collar on a running dog
Homing light in a fog
Tomato hanging on a vine
Striped candy at holiday time.

Our flag waving in the breeze
Hankie catching a sneeze
A joggers running shorts
Irritated; out of sorts

Hair ribbon on a tiny girl
Delicious cherry ice cream swirl

Spring

Fresh air
Breezy trees
Sound of chimes
Buzzing bees

Smell of grass
Flower buds
Errant fly
Lots of bugs

Tiny leaves
Electric green
Birds sing
Robins seen
