A Pre-Masters Golf Limerick

by Joel Kravitz

play it where it lies

A Great Game

Like Golf, Life’s full of lows and highs –
There’s disappointment and splendid surprise.
You take the “bads” with the “goods”,
In the fairway or woods……
You have to play the ball where it lies!

  1. So true! But wouldn’t it be nice to be allowed to pick it up & put it on better grass every now & then?

    • Absolutely. In my world, it’s called “Dr. Stein Rules.” 30 yrs ago I playing with my good friend, Dr. Stein, who was just starting to play. He hit a ball into a small pine tree and it dropped down leaving him with a stymied shot. He picked it up and tossed it into the middle of the fairway. I asked him, “What are you doing?” He pulled out his green fee ticket and replied, “You see this? I paid for the fairway.” And it made perfect sense to me. He was a beginner and we were there to have fun. It wasn’t a competition. I’m almost 70. Now I usually don’t keep score and play Dr. Stein Rules. Unfortunately, Life doesn’t have that option.
