In my room

by Jem Croucher
In my room of a morning
when all around's still
and the world's waking up
and the birdsong is shrill
I can find inspiration
in the solitude here
to write words of wisdom
erudite and clear
and craft them to lines
to retain for a while
and maybe to publish
with the curl of a smile

For my room has that presence
for comfort of mind
a place I relax in
and often unwind
somewhere to play games
and to listen to sounds
from my music quiet loudly
when no-one's around
and somewhere to write
crafting words as they come
til the syntax is ready
and the poem is done
