Rainbows on my feet

by Jem Croucher

They were waiting in the window
with a vibrancy to share
two things of utter beauty
which I could not leave there
Sized and boxed and bagged and out
they left the store with me
beaming as the mere thought
of them filled me with glee

The ‘Converse King’, I’ve worn these shoes
for fifty years and more
(Chuck Connors knew a thing or two
of what they’re truly for)
As they are just like rainbows
for a joy that is complete
symbolic yes, and wonderful
these rainbows on my feet
