Trespass

by Alanna

img_3614-1As I peer through the hole

enlarged by tiny pecks

the  bird’s white face gazes up warily

feathers spread wide over her nest

Her eyes plead,

the dark fortress breached

I leave her in peace

never to return

Holding close a sacred memory

nuthatch
